Kernel 2.6.33.2 oopsing and freezing at boot with modeset=1

2010-04-09 Thread Marc Haber
Hi,

I have just filed Linux kernel Bug #15736
(https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15736) regarding a
oops&freeze of Kernel 2.6.33.2 when booted with modeset=1 on a system
having a RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9600 M10].

The last lines of kernel output before the oops are:
[ 12.501727] Linux agpgart interface v0.103
[ 12.574951] [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810

[ 13.141231] [drm] Generation 2 PCI interface, using max accessible memory
[ 13.222395] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0040
[ 13.226373] IP: [] radeon_agp_init+0x19/0x2cf [radeon]
[ 13.226373] *pde =
[ 13.226373] Oops: [#1] PREEMPT SMP

The kernel bug report also has full kernel output from boot up to and
including the full oops.

Does anybody here have an idea whether I am doing something wrong or
what I can do to help fixing this issue?

Greetings
Marc

A long time has passed and things have changed:

(1)
After setting ColorTiling off, I haven't seen the issue again.

(2)
I have changed hardware in the mean time, and the new box, with a
M56GL [Mobility FireGL V5200], doesn't show the issue even with
ColorTiling enabled

(3)
I will be back on the old hardware probably over the easter weekend

(4)
KMS gives me a truckload of other troubles which I haven't fully
understood yet, so I have disabled KMS for the time being.

Feel free to close this bug report. I can re-open it when I see the
issue again.

Greetings
Marc

Not yet. I will do when I encounter the situation again.

Probably, I am running with ColorTiling=off at the moment.

2010-01-12 Thread Marc Haber
MrCooper suggested on IRC that it might be ColorTiling related. I have
therefore added the following Device Section to my xorg.conf:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Mobility Radeon 9600 M10"
Driver "radeon"
Option "ColorTiling" "off"
EndSection

and will report back whether this makes the issue vanish.

Bug#470983: xserver-xorg-video-ati: segfaults on startup

2008-03-15 Thread Marc Haber
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.8.0-1
Severity: normal

After trying to minimize my xorg.conf file, X segfaults. Please note
that I am not complaining about X not being able to run with the
minimized xorg.conf, but about the segfault. An X server should never
segfault on an invalid configuration file.

I am also attaching an strace.

Greetings
Marc
