Hi Dave

Good new, what ever changes you just made to either libdrm or
drm-radeon-kms has fixed the issue

:D

Thanks

I think we have a bug in the kms radeon driver with multi-card, need
to investigate.

Actually yes

I've got a Radeon 4650 in there but I'm not using it, should I remove
it completely?

I was going to switch back to it once the r700 branch is ready

I thought I'd disabled it completely in the bios

Re: Problems with KMS on RS690

2009-07-15 Thread Mike Lothian
I'm using that kernel branch

For libdrm:

./configure --prefix=/usr --build=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu
--host=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu --mandir=/usr/share/man
--infodir=/usr/share/info --datadir=/usr/share --sysconfdir=/etc
--localstatedir=/var/lib --libdir=/usr/lib64 --prefix=/usr
--datadir=/usr/share --enable-udev --enable-nouveau-experimental-api
--enable-radeon-experimental-api

 * Messages for package x11-libs/libdrm-:

 * GIT update -->
 *repository:   git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/mesa/drm
 * git fetch -f -u origin master:master
 *at the commit:3f3c5be6f908272199ccf53f108b1124bfe0a00e
 *branch:   master

Fir DDX:

./configure --prefix=/usr --build=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu
--host=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu --mandir=/usr/share/man
--infodir=/usr/share/info --datadir=/usr/share --sysconfdir=/etc
--localstatedir=/var/lib --libdir=/usr/lib64 --prefix=/usr
--datadir=/usr/share --enable-dri

 * Messages for package x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati-:

 * GIT update -->
 *repository:
git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/xorg/driver/xf86-video-ati
 *at the commit:95d431e8b260dd43cf6d93b90eecab1dc0ec7c26
 *branch:   master

I've attached the logs (compressed this time) - with KMS I get a black
screen with the X cursor but the system is unusable - without KMS KDE
starts - the problem before was unrelated (policykit problem)

So to reiterate the problem only exist with KMS

Thanks for the quick responses

Mike

I'd also like to add that without KMS I'm getting the best experience
I've ever had under linux

1080p video now playing without dropped frames or tearing or stuttering

Perfect

Suggest using :
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/airlied/drm-2.6.git
branch : drm-radeon-kms

For libdrm you need:
git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/mesa/drm and configure with
enable-radeon-experimental-api

ddx you need
git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/xorg/driver/xf86-video-ati

With all this, it works for me pretty much flawlessly on rs690.

Cheers,
Jerome

Do you have logs for that too?

Everything looks fine until here. Do you see the console boot messages?

Oops, what happened there? Did the radeon kernel module get unloaded and
loaded again for some reason? Maybe you can try building the radeon DRM
into the kernel.
