Re: [Xpert]Trident Cyberblade XP XV support

2001-09-24 Thread Egbert Eich

Im running a Toshiba Tecra 8200 laptop with a trident cyberblade xp gfx
card. The card works in Xfree but lacks xv and dga. I saw that there
were some unofficial patches and maybe some of them fixed the problem.
Could anyone put them in cvs or tell me how to install them. Im running
 debian sid.

I have a patch to get video working on XP but it only displays
videos upside down so far :-((

[Xpert]Problem with Tseng ET4000 W32i 16bpp

2001-09-24 Thread George Jones (IT)
Title: Problem with Tseng ET4000 W32i 16bpp

I've tried 3.3.6, 4.0.1, and 4.0.3 to get the ET4000 in my compaq performa to display at 16bpp. I can get it at 8 bit with no problem. I know the thing is capable of it as it handles 16bit in Win32 with no problem. The 3.3.6 docs on the Tseng driver mentions something about needing a clock chip to attain 16 bit color, but I cannot seem to locate the chip on the board. I've installed Red Hat 6.2, 7.1, and Mandrake 7.02 i486, Xconfigurator can't seem to probe for it.

What should I do???

Seems to be fixed in 4.1.0-5, or maybe it was my mistake.

Re: [Xpert]A modest proposal for multiheaded X (corrected)

Now, it is practically impossible to write window manager that
implements separate, independant workspaces without the using
the Xinerama extensions. However, to implent this idea using
the Xinerama extensions is widely recognized as very difficult.

   Why is that?

You need to introduce windows looking like the background to obscure
the parts of the window spanning the second monitor. It's hard to get
the window stacking order right, I think. Consider two windows, one
at each side of the monitor chasm. It seems impossible to do to me.

Re: [Xpert]Trident Chipsets Xv support

2001-09-24 Thread Anders Rune Jensen

Yeah NO PROBLEM!!

But how do we do that, I have xfree installed from debian packages. Can I just remove that one and then download the cvs version and install that one?

If people can look closely at trident_dac.c for the pTrident-hsync/vsync
values and adjust accordingly for their setup and send some comments
regarding what you had to do to get the video centered in the video window.

 Thanks.

or have I done something stupid

[Xpert]Possibly OT: X causing network traffic

2001-09-24 Thread Dennis

Sorry if this question is OT for this list, but I can't seem to find
any information elsewhere.

My situation is that I recently started mounting /home remotely and
whenever I start X now I get tons of UDP traffic on port 800. At first
I thought it had something to do with NFS, but some testing shows that
it doesn't happen if I boot to a command line, only when I start X. I
did some searching, but all I can find are hundreds of port lists that
tell me port 800 is for mdbs_daemon, I can't seem to find a clear
description of what this is or why it is happening. Heck, I'd settle
for a not so clear description! If anyone could offer some info on
this, or point me in the right direction, it would be very appreciated.
This is driving me nuts.

TIA,

Dennis
