Re: [Xpert]Getting 8500 in 3d Working well

2002-10-06 Thread Nelson Bartley

You're right.

After I examined my XF log, It shows that I have HorizSyncs too far out.
I've attached both of my XF86Config-4 files, as well as my XFree86.0.log
file. I'm attempting to use the same file for both my standard radeon
based config, as well as the flgr config, with the appropriate
modifications for the Firegl.

I wonder, Does anyone have a working 1280x1024 @ 75hz modeline that can
be used w/ the firegl driver?

You may want to post the /var/log/XFree86.0.log and perhaps it will shed
some light on why your cannot do higher res. Perhaps your Monitor section
 has too restrictive HorizSync/VertRefresh values.

Is it still the accepted standard that if you want 3d Performance under

Re: [Xpert]$25 for ans: Laptop external monitor

2002-05-03 Thread Nelson Bartley

I think I might have the answer.

If I remember correctly, the old 128 Mobility did not have a native dual
head built in. (EG: The ability to run 2 seperate resolutions from one
chip. It's the same issue my Savage IX has, you can put out to either
the monitor, or the LCD, or both, but each must have the same
resolution.

Question for ya, when you were running windows, were you able to specify
2 seperate resolutions?

If you weren't able to run 2 seperate monitor resolutions in windows you
won't be able to run it in linux.

Now, if you want to use just the CRT at 1600x1200 you've got the
solution already, all you need to do is change the resolution in your
config and you're done.

The only interm solution I can think of is using 2 seperate init modes,
each changing to the CRT, or LCD XF86Config files, and launching X.

 Hi,

I have a laptop - external monitor problem and will *gladly*
send $25 to the first person who posts the critical
info to get it running correctly. Let me buy you lunch ...
just wish I could be there too :-)

 Here's the issue -

I'm running XFree86 Version 4.1.0 (Red Hat Linux release: 4.1.0-3)
on Redhat 7.2 on a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop / ATI Rage 128 Mobility.
The laptop screen is 1400x1050, and the external monitor is
1600x1200. I can run the external monitor at 1400x1050,
but I really need to drive it at 1600x1200.

When I hit Fn-F8 to switch monitors the external
monitor works OK, but only at 1400x1050.
 When I put the line
 Option Display CRT
in the Device section, the laptop screen turns off and the external
 turns on automatically, without Fn-F8.
But it's at 1400x1050, and is all wavey/jittery/turbulent.

How can I get the external monitor running at 1600x1200?
The config and log files are appended below.

Again, my offer is serious and is for the first person
 who offers the full solution.

 Many thanks!

 Steve
