Subject: XF4.2 and RADEON Support

What is the current status of support (xf v4.2) in terms of an
accelerated driver for the ATI RADEON cards, specifically the
M6, 7500 and FireGL 7800 cards??

XFree86 4.2.0 supports the M6, 7500 however it doesn't support
the FireGL 7800 out of the box.

I have written a patch that adds support for the FireGL 7800
which seems to work for at least one user, however I do not have
the hardware to officially test it on myself.

The patch is included in Red Hat Linux 7.3 and has also been
submitted to XFree86.org.

You can dig the patch out of our src.rpm if you like as well, it
is the following patch:

# ATI Radeon Mobility M7 (LX) support - Mike A. Harris [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Patch130: XFree86-4.2.0-ati-radeon-mobility-LX.patch

I don't know if 3D works or not, and I haven't touched any 3D
code in the above patch. If you try it out, and 3D works also,
please let me know.

Thanks.

2D, 3D, XVideo and dual head hardware support.

 and FireGL 7800 cards??

For FireGL cards ATI's binary drivers are probably the best bet.

Not for this FireGL board however. ATI's binary drivers for
FireGL are for the R200 hardware, specifically the FireGL 8700
and 8800, but also work with the 8500 to some degree of success.
The RV200 boards are not supported by their drivers at all, at
least to my knowledge.

The FireGL 7800 is named FireGL, but it is basically a Radeon
Mobility M7 with a different PCI ID, clocked higher. It is
similar to a Radeon 7500 for all intents and purposes.

I'm still interested in hearing if any Red Hat Linux 7.3 users
with the FireGL 7800 have 3D working out of the box. 2D is
reported to work fine.

This will probably sound like a stupid question, but where does one find the
ATI binary drivers? I've known about and used the Nvidia ones before, but
I've never seen the ATI ones (barely heard of them, actually). If someone
can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

Officially for FireGL 8700/8800 only, but also works
experimentally on 8500. Doesn't work on other hardware.
