[Xubuntu-dev] [Bug 2084325] [NEW] Convert xfce4-terminal terminalrc to Xfconf

2024-10-12 Thread Sean Davis

Recommended on #xubuntu-devel

For the next release we should fix terminalrc for xfce4-terminal.
 What needs to be done?
Just convert to xfconf format, super easy but not worth doing now.

[Xubuntu-dev] [Bug 2061994] [NEW] [UIFe] Xubuntu 24.04 Installer Slides

2024-04-17 Thread Sean Davis
Public bug reported:

I'm requesting a UI Freeze Exception for Xubuntu 24.04's installer
slideshow on behalf of the Xubuntu Team and Xubuntu Release Team.

We (all flavors) were significantly delayed for the completion of the
new installer and slideshow availability and I am only now able to
upload our en_US slides. I hope to coordinate additional translations
before next week's release and will solicit additional updates in time
for 24.04.1.

Without this upload, Xubuntu uses the main Ubuntu's slideshow, which is
at times, irrelevant to Xubuntu's users.

Xubuntu now uses the new installer. This allows Xubuntu to keep our minimal

You know this system better than I do! I've gone ahead and removed the preseed.

Hi Steve,

Can you please review these merge proposals again? I switched things around to
make Xubuntu Minimal a subproject and updated each MP accordingly.

Thanks!

After some discussion with the team, it looks like the minimal image no longer
necessitates this change. Combined the xubuntu and xubuntu-minimal rules.

Got it. Update on the removal of maybe-ubiquity:

JackFrost: As I understand it, that's the new style try/install screen, vs the
classic one which allows you to append boot options too.

I renamed the seed to xubuntu-minimal:

When I attempt to update the metapackage, germinate is throwing an error I
haven't seen before:

As for the seed changes... xubuntu-minimal.seed uses the xubuntu-core task

Removed from both xubuntu and xubuntu-minimal. Thanks!

Yes, I think this would make sense. I'll hold on package surgery until I know
Xubuntu Minimal is approved (or is it already?)

I don't *think* we do. This line exists in (nearly?) every preseed. Not sure if
it's still needed these days.

I've just added a new case for jammy, so this should only affect later releases.

It'd be ideal to have the minimal image published on the existing release
pages, xubuntu/daily-live, xubuntu/releases. Any objection to this? If not, I
can update livefs-launchpad (and another needed places) accordingly.

Image sizes have gotten away from us in recent releases, but you are right.
xubuntu-minimal should be targeting CD sizes. Updated.

Thank you, Steve. In anticipation of next steps, I've gone ahead and renamed
Xubuntu Core to Xubuntu Minimal.

Should I kick off a discussion on the mailing list with the rest of the TB with
regard to Xubuntu Minimal, or ... what do you recommend next?

[Xubuntu-dev] [Merge] ~xubuntu-dev/ubuntu-cdimage:xubuntu-core into ubuntu-cdimage:main

2023-01-07 Thread Sean Davis
The proposal to merge ~xubuntu-dev/ubuntu-cdimage:xubuntu-core into
ubuntu-cdimage:main has been updated.

Description changed to:

Some history:
- https://github.com/Xubuntu/xubuntu-development/issues/1

Announced in 2015 and supported by our community members since, Xubuntu Minimal
is a trimmed down version of Xubuntu that fits on smaller installation media.

The Xubuntu Team would very much like to have official images published for
Xubuntu Minimal starting with the 23.04 cycle.

[Xubuntu-dev] [Merge] ~xubuntu-dev/livecd-rootfs:xubuntu-core into livecd-rootfs:ubuntu/master

2023-01-07 Thread Sean Davis
Sean Davis has proposed merging ~xubuntu-dev/livecd-rootfs:xubuntu-core into
livecd-rootfs:ubuntu/master.

Commit message:
Add Xubuntu Core

Requested reviews:
  Ubuntu Core Development Team (ubuntu-core-dev)

For more details, see:
https://code.launchpad.net/~xubuntu-dev/livecd-rootfs/+git/livecd-rootfs/+merge/435315

Some history:
- https://github.com/Xubuntu/xubuntu-development/issues/1

Announced in 2015 and supported by our community members since, Xubuntu Core is
a trimmed down version of Xubuntu that fits on smaller installation media.

The Xubuntu Team would very much like to have official images published for
Xubuntu Core starting with the 23.04 cycle.

Software. Instead of opening the package, the default should be to
launch the installer.

[Xubuntu-dev] [Bug 1906241] Re: File -> Find in this folder: change catfish command

2022-09-24 Thread Sean Davis
I disagree with your assessment. If a user right-clicks on a folder, any
actions displayed should be applicable to the selected ("this") folder.
This matches with the other actions (open in new tab, etc) when right-
clicking a folder.

Likewise, if a user right-clicks in the blank space of the current
folder, they intend to act upon the current folder.

Thank you for submitting this proposal.

[Xubuntu-dev] [Bug 1768844] Re: Numlock key turns on constantly, must push twice to turn off

2020-05-25 Thread Sean Davis
We included numlockx because this is normally a desired feature for
desktop usage. Unfortunately these sorts of settings are not well
handled in X11, and there's not a consistent way to turn the behavior on
or off. If the automatic numlock setting is bothering you, you can
uninstall the numlockx package on your system.

Meanwhile, we should document this so users can more easily find the
solution in the future. Adding xubuntu-docs as affected.

Hey @xnox,

Yes, we've been trying for years to get Xubuntu Core (Base) included as one of
our installation images. We have a community member that has been providing
builds in lieu of unaccepted build changes. We have three merges that are
required to make this a reality.

- This one
- https://code.launchpad.net/~xubuntu-dev/livecd-rootfs/xubuntu-base
- https://code.launchpad.net/~xubuntu-dev/ubuntu-cdimage/xubuntu-base

If you can help us move this forward, we would be extremely grateful.

Pidgin theme:
- URL: https://github.com/shimmerproject/pidgin-elementary
- Pidgin will require patching to support installing this theme globally

Improved developer documentation. Useful topics to cover:
- Configuring development environment for Xfce and Xubuntu
- Debian packaging for Xubuntu packages (including gbp)
- Launchpad git workflow (WIP https://wiki.xubuntu.org/devel/git)
- Release process for applications (similar to the Xfce docs)
- Standard SRU practices to backport fixes to LTS

Re: [Xubuntu-dev] [Merge] lp:~xubuntu-dev/ubuntu-cdimage/bionic_image_size into lp:ubuntu-cdimage

2019-02-24 Thread Sean Davis
Thanks for the review. I think it would have used the 1.46 GB limit that was in
place which already didn't fit the 1 GB limit the code had before. I've
increased the limit to 2 GB just to make it more sane.

Re: [Xubuntu-dev] [Merge] lp:~xubuntu-dev/ubuntu-cdimage/bionic_image_size into lp:ubuntu-cdimage

2019-02-17 Thread Sean Davis
Hi Steve, thank you for reviewing.

I was copying the logic employed by ubuntu-gnome. I've adjusted this and
simplified the logic since the xenial case is handled for ubuntu-gnome and
xubuntu in the previous elif statement.
