Hello List, 
It was said that 17.10 "corrupting BIOS", am I secure with an uefi-based 
device?

Have you tried Ubuntu minimal installer? 

Alternatively, you could install Xubuntu without a bootloader and then try ti 
install grub from a live Linux.

Hi,
Did you keep your Debian? Then you could simply skip the bootloader 
installation and use debians grub to boot your Ubuntu
