Fred,

I do not know what you are exactly looking for, but I bought a laptop to
this supplier: http://whyopencomputing.ch/

Xubuntu 14.04 LTS is running well on it for the last 3 months.

It is the

Re: [xubuntu-users] Xubuntu 18.4 upgrade looses network scanner

2018-08-12 Thread Yvan POSTE

Eddie,

I did the upgrade (from16.04 to 18.04),  or a fresh installation
(sometimes you have less problems), few weeks ago, I also have Brother
network printers.

I do not remember what I did exactly, but I am almost sure that I
reinstalled the linux brother packages that you can find on the website.

For example for my Brother L8650CDW, look at :

http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadtop.aspx?c=gb&lang=en&prod=mfcl8650cdw_eu_cn

Is it OK for you ?

Re: [xubuntu-users] cryptic msg from ubuntu

2020-10-01 Thread Yvan POSTE

Hi John,

The subject you are talking about is whether or not the 32-bit version
will be supported over time.

I checked quickly this morning and found 2 pieces of information on this
subject :

https://www.numetopia.fr/retour-du-support-du-32-bits-dans-ubuntu/

https://ubuntu.com/blog/statement-on-32-bit-i386-packages-for-ubuntu-19-10-and-20-04-lts

In fact, some support will continue to be provided, but partially, not
all packages will be supported over time, as the majority of computers
sold in the last 10 years have been 64-bit architecture and the current
stock is also 64-bit.

A good tip is to migrate to a 64-bit computer.

I hope I have answered your question.

Have a nice day.

I rcvd 2 updates from ubuntu in the last day or two with the below

SORRY, THERE ARE NO MORE UPGRADES FOR THIS SYSTEM

There will not be any further Ubuntu releases for this system's
architecture.

Updates for Ubuntu, 18.04 will continue until 2023-04-26.
If you reinstall Ubuntu from ubuntu.com/download, future upgrades will
be available.

Since I an running 18.04, on a 32 bit system, I am confused. Can
someone explain?

Re: [xubuntu-users] Domestic project management

2023-02-08 Thread Yvan POSTE

Dear Peter,

I used few ones in the past (free of charge), GanttProject is the best
and not too complicated.

Now, you might have to pay a little contribution or go further in the
download process.

It is a multiplatforms software and good enough. The limitation is that
you only plan at the scale of one day not one hour (as I remember),
check if it is a limitation for you.

Have a good work,

Sincerely,

Yvan

All the apps I look at are gigantic, aimed at corporate users, and
gross overkill for tiny little projects like this. They offer all
kinds of features like multi-user, integration with blogs and MS
Project, allocation of resources between multiple providers, etc,
which are obviously useful in big projects, but tend to get in the way
of personal ones.

Does anyone have any recommendations for something to run on Ubuntu?

Re: [xubuntu-users] Printer Stopped Printing

2023-02-20 Thread Yvan POSTE

Hello to everybody,

Have you tried, the linux packages from brother ?

I do not own your models, but other ones and when I was working on
linux, I used to install the brother linux packages on my PC.

Good luck,

This happens to me now and then, usually when I need to print NOW.
I try reinstalling CUPS and the driver. You could also uninstall the
printer(s) and reinstall first.
I've had much better luck with HP. I believe they contributed CUPS, so
HP printers are at an advantage.

Nothing from the HL5340.
