The bad news, outside of the Ubuntu flavour universe snaps aren’t accepted, due to the bad design. Fine by me. Alternatives such as flatpak are at least a little bit tolerated. I've heard of it but never seen or used it. I need a snap free distribution, not because I care about the tmp issue, just because I want a real long term support distribution without regular packages that are replaced by a snap, flatpak or Co. thingy. IOW I don’t know what distro to use for this purpose in the future, but it will not be Ubuntu with snaps. I'll be right behind you. Re: [xubuntu-users] gimp-helping "not available" ...in Firefox 104.0.1
Hello Hans, I had the same problem with the local helpfile from libreoffice. Since 22.04 Firefox is not a "normal" dep-Package but a "snap". Snaps are not allowed to use "/tmp" because of security issus. If Gimp has the same problem, you can switch to another Browser like Vivaldi or replace Firefox with Firefox-ESR. You could install vivaldi (https://vivaldi.com/de/download/) and make it the default-browser and make a test. If the hekp works, you can stay with vivaldi or uninstall it and switch to Firefox-ESR. This is a Link to my post in the (german) LO-Mailinglist: https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/de/users/2022/msg00907.html Regards, Michael Am Sonntag, dem 04.09.2022 um 22:55 + schrieb Hans Schneidhofer: > hi xubuntu-users, > > although the gimp manual is installed locally, the help files cannot > be > called up in Firefox.
