Try an external keyboard.

You can probably find a replacement / used keyboard on ebay. Lenovo's are 
usually not to hard to open and replace parts. Go to Lenovo's site and look 
for a manual to download. Or, search YouTube for a video on keyboard 
replacement for your model.

You could know, but it requires more advanced testing measures ;).

FWIW the built-in keyboard and touchpad could suffer from a software
issue, that doesn't affect externally connected devices. However, if
the build-in devices should fail to work related to broken hardware,
you can't be sure that the built-in keyboard and touchpad are the broken
hardware components.

Borrow another and see if the same happens.

If not, trash it and buy a new one.

If the same happens, it's not the keyboard.
