OK, thanks.

Messages don't have names. Do you mean the "From" header? Or the
"Subject" header?

No, Thunderbird does not rename anything. It's getting renamed by some
other process somewhere between the Ubuntu list server and your mail host.

This is being inserted by Yahoo. I don't know what it is or what it does.

Ralf has already mentioned the handling of the
"filename="ForwardedMessage.eml""

Ah. I didn't know this was about messages from the Digest. I don't
subscribe to that, so I don't know how it works.

The rest looks normal enough; my guess is that Yahoo is interfering with
it somehow.

Re: [xubuntu-users] please name included messages - solved

2016-12-06 Thread Ralf Mardorf
Ok, we can see that all messages of the MIME digest are named
"ForwardedMessage.eml", but it doesn't matter, since a good MUA does
display the messages, with the subject line. Actually I see your mail
using claws-mail 3.14.1.r19.ge7206c0 and evolution 3.22.2.

Claws doesn't show "filename="ForwardedMessage.eml"" at all, just
Evolution does. However, Evolution as well as Claws do show the
subject and date etc. of the attached emails, so it doesn't matter what
the filename is.

Btw.

>When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific
>than "Re: Contents of xubuntu-users digest..."

When using MIME digest, the above sentence is nonsense. This is just
important, when using plain text digest. When using MIME digest, then
don't reply to the digest, reply to a message inside the digest, then
the subject as well as the thread of the original message are
automatically kept.

IOW the claim

"[snip] Replying to digest emails breaks the threading [1]
 [snip]" - http://community.ubuntu.com/contribute/support/mailinglists/

is wrong when talking about MIME digest. It's only true for plain text
digest.

I don't know if mailman always names the files "ForwardedMessage.eml".
Why would it be helpful for you, if "every message is not named
"ForwardedMessage.eml" but with an individual name"?

Is there an issue with Thunderbird?

Ralf

No, not his email complaining about the problem.
What we need is a copy of the email he was complaining *about*.
(The one he received with the attachment "ForwardedMessage.eml".

If he's using Tbird, no. It's right there in the View menu.

Bernhard, can you do that?

and now I noticed you're using Thunderbird, too, assuming it's not a
faked header.

"User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101
 Thunderbird/45.2.0"

So you could explain the OP what to do ;).

Hi,

the mail was sent using Thunderbird, not by the Yahoo web interface.

"User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101
 Thunderbird/45.5.1"

I suspect it shouldn't be an issue to find a way to forward or at least
save and attach an email, by keeping its original (perhaps MIME)
structure, including all headers.

Ralf

Hi,

you are talking in riddles. What are you referring to?
