Anton Gladky proposed the following answer:
Hi,

I agree with Christian, my Intel i7 gives also the fastest result.
i5 is a little behind, but also a good choice.

But 24/7 DEM-simulations are really a stress-tests for machines.
Be sure you have a guarantee for CPU and motherboard :)

(1 year ago) I got a new computer with an i7 core. I would definitely
prefer the i7 technology! For details see here:

I got 2-3 times higher calculation speed with the i7 (although cpu
frequency is nearly the same) in DEM applications!

[Yade-users] [Question #212429]: computer configuration

2012-10-26 Thread Luc Scholtès
New question #212429 on Yade:
https://answers.launchpad.net/yade/+question/212429

Hi all,

Sorry in advance if this is not the right place for that, but I plan to buy a
computer mostly for YADE use and I have very little experience on computer's
performances. For instance, between those two configurations:

1) http://h4.www4.hp.com/new_workstations/adlanding/uk/en/z600_details.html

2) http://h4.www4.hp.com/new_workstations/adlanding/uk/en/z800.html

Do you think that it would be worth buying the expensive one (2) compare to the
other (1)?

What is actually the component to favour in regards to YADE structure and
behavior?

Thanks for any advice

  Luc
