[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1600774] [NEW] lookup DNS and use it before creating a new one

2016-07-11 Thread Rossella Sblendido
Public bug reported:

In some deployment DNS is already pre-populated for every IP. To make
Neutron use this DNS name, the attribute dns_name needs to be filled. It
would be more straightforward to provide in Neutron a way to fill
automatically this dns_name, doing a reverse DNS lookup.

2 operation occurs: the VM deletion (that triggers the Neutron port
deletion) and the floating ip deletion. Nova sends a request to Neutron
to delete the floating IP. When a floating IP is deleted Neutron will
get the port associated with the floating ip to send a network change
event notification to Nova. The get port fails with PortNotFound because
in the meanwhile the Neutron port that the VM was using, has been
deleted. The floating ip request fails because Neutron sends back to
Nova a PortNotFound error.

Title:
HTTPS connection failing for Docker >= 1.10

Status in neutron:
  Invalid

Bug description:
We experience problems with outgoing HTTPS connections from Docker
containers when running in OpenStack VMs.

We assume this could be a bug in OpenStack because:
  - Ubuntu 14, 16 and CoreOS show the same problems
  - While there are no problems with Docker 1.6.2 and 1.9.1, it fails with
Docker 1.10 and 1.11
  - The same containers work outside OpenStack
  - We found similar problem descriptions in the web that occured on other
OpenStack providers

The issue can easily be reproduced with:

  1.) Installing a docker version >= 1.10
2.) docker run -it ubuntu apt-get update

Expected output: Ubuntu updates its package list
Actual output: Download does not start and runs into a timeout

The same problem seems to occur with wget and curl and our Java
  application.

Please note that plain HTTP works as expected, so does issuing the
Https requests from the Docker host machine.

Disabling network virtualization with Docker flag --net="host" fixes
the problems with wget, curl and apt-get, unfortunately not with the
Java app we're trying to deploy in OpenStack.

For our current project this is actually a blocker since CoreOS comes
bundled with a recent Docker version which is not trivial to
  downgrade.

I can't see any version information in the Horizon interface of our
provider, however I think I heard they are using Mitaka release.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1585165] [NEW] floating ip not reachable after vm migration

2016-05-24 Thread Rossella Sblendido
Public bug reported:

On a cloud running Liberty, a VM is assigned a floating IP. The VM is
live migrated and the floating IP is no longer reachable from outside
the cloud. Steps to reproduce:

1) spawn a VM
2) assign a floating IP
3) live migrate the VM
4) ping the floating IP from outside the cloud

the problem seems to be that both the node that was hosting the VM
before the migration and the node that hosts it now answers the ARP
request:

admin:~ # arping -I eth0 10.127.128.12
ARPING 10.127.128.12 from 10.127.0.1 eth0
Unicast reply from 10.127.128.12 [FA:16:3E:C8:E6:13] 305.145ms
Unicast reply from 10.127.128.12 [FA:16:3E:45:BF:9E] 694.062ms
Unicast reply from 10.127.128.12 [FA:16:3E:45:BF:9E] 0.964ms

on the compute that was hosting the VM:

root:~ # sudo ip netns exec fip-c622fafe-c663-456a-8549-ebd3dbed4792 ip route
default via 10.127.0.1 dev fg-c100b010-af
10.127.0.0/16 dev fg-c100b010-af proto kernel scope link src 10.127.128.3
10.127.128.12 via 169.254.31.28 dev fpr-7d1a001a-9

On the node that it's hosting the VM:

root:~ # sudo ip netns exec fip-c622fafe-c663-456a-8549-ebd3dbed4792 ip route
default via 10.127.0.1 dev fg-e532a13f-35
10.127.0.0/16 dev fg-e532a13f-35 proto kernel scope link src 10.127.128.8 9
10.127.128.12 via 169.254.31.28 dev fpr-7d1a001a-9

the entry "10.127.128.12" is present in both nodes. That happens
because when the VM is migrated no clean up is triggered on the source
host. Restarting the l3 agent fixes the problem because the stale entry
is removed.

because when the VM is migrated no clean up is triggered on the source
host. Restarting the l3 agent fixes the problem because the stale
  entry is removed.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1569693] Re: Ports not recreated during neutron agent restart

2016-04-15 Thread Rossella Sblendido
If l2pop is not enabled, tunnel ports are created in tunnel_sync that it's
executed at agent startup. In this case tunnels are opened to all the hosts.
When l2pop is enabled only tunnels to hosts that have VM running on the same
network are opened.
Not sure what's happening in your environment but it looks more like some
misconfiguration than some real bug.

Title:
Ports not recreated during neutron agent restart

Status in neutron:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Ports are not recreated during neutron agent restart with l2_pop=False.
When the agent is restarted after deleting br-int and br-tun, the bridges are
recreated but the tunnel ports and some of the integration bridge ports are not
recreated.
When l2_pop is turned True, and the same procedure is retried, the bridges
and tunnel ports to all compute nodes running instances are recreated properly.

Title:
Ovs agent loses OpenFlow rules if OVS gets restarted while Neutron is
  disconnected from SQL

Status in neutron:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Flow to reproduce in Juno:

  1. Node X has neutron-ovs-agent running
  2. Neutron-server running ML2 plugin loses its connection to SQL server. At
this point neutron-ovs-agent is not aware to this, since it doesn't query
device properties.
  3. OVS is restarted in the background of the neutron-ovs-agent.
  4. The neutron-ovs-agent realizes that OVS was restarted since the CANARY
VALUE it placed in OpenFlow table 23 is missing.
  5. The agent raises a local flag ovs_restarted and replaces the CANARY value
to signal it took care of the OVS restart in this iteration.
  6. It runs through the OVS restart flow, which erases the OpenFlow rules
(again, this is Juno).
  7. When accessing the Neutron server to in process_network_ports() it the
following SQL error which breaks this iteration:

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1533704] [NEW] networking doesn't work for VMs on xen

2016-01-13 Thread Rossella Sblendido
Public bug reported:

I didn't experience it myself, I got an email from Tom Carroll
explaining this problem with lots of details. I thought I'd file a bug
so that other people can benefit.

This is the report:

"I've been attempting to use liberty neutron on XenServer and I've
noticed some changes that make it difficult to do so. These changes
begin with commit 3543d8858691c1a709127e25fc0838e054bd34ef, the
delegating of is_active() to AsyncProcess.

The root cause of the problem is that the root helper, in this, neutron-
rootwrap-xen-dom0, runs in a domU, but executes commands in dom0.

In this scenario, AsyncProcess.pid returns None. This is due to trying
to travel from the root helper down to leaf children. And again, the
children are running in a different dom. As a consequence,
AsyncProcess.is_active() returns false, causing the ovsdb client to be
eventually respawned.

Another complicating scenario, is neutron-rootwrap-xen-dom0 communicates
with dom0 using an XMLRPC style protocol. It reads the entire stdin,
launches the command in dom0 providing the buffer to stdin, reads the
entire stdout, and responds back. If the command never ends, a response
will never be returned.

The end result is that new interfaces are never annotated with the
proper 1Q tag, which means that the network is inoperable for the VM.

A complete restart of the neutron agent, fixesup the networking."

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1521314] Re: Changing physical interface mapping may result in multiple physical interfaces in bridge

2015-12-01 Thread Rossella Sblendido
The agent doesn't delete unused bridges. If you want to clean up,
there's a tool for that, it's neutron/cmd/linuxbridge_cleanup.py :)

Title:
Changing physical interface mapping may result in multiple physical
  interfaces in bridge

Status in neutron:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Version: 2015.2 (Liberty)
  Plugin: ML2 w/ LinuxBridge

While testing various NICs, I found that changing the physical
interface mapping in the ML2 configuration file and restarting the
agent resulted in the old physical interface remaining in the bridge.
This can be observed with the following steps:

  Original configuration:

  [linux_bridge]
  physical_interface_mappings = physnet1:eth2

  racker@compute01:~$ brctl show
bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces
  brqad516357-478000.e41d2d5b6213 noeth2
 tap72e7d2be-24

  Modify the bridge mapping:

  [linux_bridge]
  #physical_interface_mappings = physnet1:eth2
  physical_interface_mappings = physnet1:eth1

  Restart the agent:

  racker@compute01:~$ sudo service neutron-plugin-linuxbridge-agent restart
  neutron-plugin-linuxbridge-agent stop/waiting
  neutron-plugin-linuxbridge-agent start/running, process 12803

  Check the bridge:

  racker@compute01:~$ brctl show
bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces
  brqad516357-478000.6805ca37dc39 noeth1
 eth2
 tap72e7d2be-24

This behavior was observed with flat or vlan networks, and can result
in some wonky behavior. Removing the original interface from the
bridge(s) by hand or restarting the node is a workaround, but I
suspect LinuxBridge users aren't used to modifying the bridges
manually as the agent usually handles that.

Hello Hirofumi, there was a change in the way DocImpact flag workflow,
see here [1]. Now the bugs generated by the DocImpact flag are assigned
to the Neutron team instead of the doc team as it was before. Since you
are the author of the patch with the DocImpact flag would you mind
taking care of adding doc for this feature, thanks!

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1479264] Re: test_resync_devices_set_up_after_exception fails with "RowNotFound: Cannot find Bridge with name=test-br69135803"

2015-11-04 Thread Rossella Sblendido
If the bridge doesn't exists the exception is still not caught , which
is the right behaviour according to me because the agent tries to get
the ancillary ports only if it detects ancillary bridges. We were seeing
some race in the test clean up probably., which disappeared since I get
0 hit now. I will mark it as invalid, feel free to reopen it if the
problem persists.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1500567] Re: port binding host_id does not update when removing openvswitch agent

2015-10-05 Thread Rossella Sblendido
Out of curiosity why did you have to delete the ovs agent on that host?
I can't imagine any use case...

Title:
port binding host_id does not update when removing openvswitch agent

Status in neutron:
  Opinion

Bug description:
  SPECS:
  Openstack Juno
  neutron version 2.3.9
  nova version 2.20.0
  OS: CentOS 6.5 Final
kernel: 2.6.32-504.1.3.el6.mos61.x86_64 (Mirantis Fuel 6.1 installed
compute+ceph node)

  SCENARIO:
I had a compute node that was also running an neutron-openvswitch-agent.
This was 'node-12'.
Before node-12's primary disk died, there was an instance being hosted on the
node, which was in the state 'SHUTDOWN'.
I have created a node-15, which also runs the neutron-openvswitch-agent with
nova-compute. I did not migrate the instance before perfroming a neutron
agent-delete on node-12, so now there is metadata that looks like this:

  [root@node-14 ~]# neutron port-show c209538b-ecc1-4414-9f97-e0f6a5d08ecc

+---+--+
  | Field | Value
 |

+---+--+
  | admin_state_up| True
 |
  | allowed_address_pairs |
 |
  | binding:host_id | node-12

  ACTION:
Node-12 neutron agent is deleted, using the command, `neutron agent-delete
6bcadbe2-7631-41f5-9124-6fe75016217a`

  EXPECTED:
all neturon ports bound with that agent should be updated and modified to use
an alternative binding host_id, preferably the host currently running the VM.
In my scenario, this would be node-15. NOT node-12.

  ACTUAL:
The neutron ports maintained the same binding:host_id, which was node-12.

  ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

I was able to update the value using the following request:

  curl -X PUT -d '{"port":{"binding:host_id": "node-15.domain.com"}}' -H
  "X-Auth_token:f3f1c03239b246a8a7ffa9ca0eb323bf" -H "Content-type:
  application/json"
  http://10.10.30.2:9696/v2.0/ports/f98fe798-d522-4b6c-b084-45094fdc5052.json

However, I'm not sure if there are modifications to the openvswitch
agent on node-15 that also need to be performed.

Also, since my node-12 died before I could migrate the instances, and
I attempted to power them on before i realized they needed migration,
I was forced to update the instances table in the database, and
specify node-15 as the new host.

  > update instances set task_state = NULL where task_state = 'powering-on';
  > update instances set host = 'node-15.domain.com' where host =
'node-12.domain.com';
  > update instances set node = 'node-15.domain.com' where node =
'node-12.domain.com';
  > update instances set launched_on = 'node-15.domain.com' where launched_on =
'node-12.domain.com';

In my case, the work around is to kick off a 'migrate', in which case
  the binding:host_id is updated.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1210274] Re: InvalidQuotaValue should be 400 or 403 rather than 409

InvalidQuotaValue should be 400 or 403 rather than 409

Status in OpenStack Neutron (virtual network service):
  Invalid

Bug description:
  The neutron.common.exceptions.InvalidQuotaValue exception extends
Conflict which is a 409 status code but that doesn't really make sense
for this exception. I'd say it should be a BadRequest (400) but the
API docs list possible response codes for quota extension operations
  as 401 or 403:

  http://docs.openstack.org/api/openstack-
  network/2.0/content/Update_Quotas.html

  In this case I'd say it's more of a 403 than a 409. Regardless, 409
isn't even in the API doc for the quota extension.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1424587] [NEW] In ML2 plugin for accessing private attributes of PortContext members use accessors

2015-02-23 Thread Rossella Sblendido
Public bug reported:

In the ML2 plugin instead of accessing the private members of
PortContext directly, use accessors. For example:

orig_context._network_context._network

should be:

orig_context.network.current

port = mech_context._port

should be:

port = mech_context.current

and so on...

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1409774] [NEW] sqlalchemy session needs to be rolled back after catching a db exception

2015-01-12 Thread Rossella Sblendido
Public bug reported:

To avoid errors like this:

sqlalchemy.exc.InvalidRequestError: This Session's transaction has been
rolled back by a nested rollback() call. To begin a new transaction,
issue Session.rollback() first

the sqlalchemy session needs to be rolled back after catching a db
exception in a transaction, see sqlalchemy faq
http://docs.sqlalchemy.org/en/rel_0_8/faq.html#this-session-s
-transaction-has-been-rolled-back-due-to-a-previous-exception-during-
flush-or-similar . There are places in Neutron code where a db exception
is caught and the session is not properly rolled back. As explained in
the sqlalchemy faq, this is the right way:

try:

session.commit()
except:
session.rollback()
raise
finally:
session.close() # optional, depends on use case

Status in OpenStack Neutron (virtual network service):

Bug description:
After I installed some updates from Software Updater for a while, I found my
account cannot use sudo command anymore. Ubuntu told me that I'm not a sudoer.
Reboot my laptop and enter recover mode, I found 2 lines of my /etc/sudoers
file was changed from
root ALL=(ALL) ALL
my_account ALL=(ALL) ALL
  to
 root ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL

I'm the only user of my laptop, and recent days I didn't change
sudoers. I think it's a bug in a update files.

  Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Bug description:
I'm running wait in ProcessLauncher in a green thread. I attempted to
kill the green thread and then call wait so that the process launcher
object can reap its child processes cleanly. This resulted in a trace
resulting from a GreenletExit exception being thrown.

The eventlet documentation states multiple times that GreenletExit is
thrown after .kill() has been called to kill a thread. I think
ProcessLauncher should expect this and deal with it.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1364085] [NEW] DBDuplicateEntry: (IntegrityError) duplicate key value violates unique constraint "ipavailabilityranges_pkey"

2014-09-01 Thread Rossella Sblendido
Public bug reported:

It affects only postgresql
To reproduce this bug:

1) Create a network with few IPs (eg /29)
2) Create 2 VMs that use the /29 network.
3) Destroy the 2 VMs
4) From horizon create a number of VMs > IP available (eg. 8)

When there's no IP available, _rebuild_availability_ranges will be
called to recycle the IPs of the VMs that no longer exist (the ones
that we created at step 2 ) . From the logs i see that when there's a
bulk creation of ports and the IP range is over, 2 or more
_rebuild_availability_ranges are triggered at the same time by different
port creation operation. This leads to the DBDuplicateEntry, since the
operation that is performed last, will try to insert in the DB stale
data.

See log:

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1348703] [NEW] LinuxInterfaceDriver plug and unplug methods in derived class already check for device existence

2014-07-25 Thread Rossella Sblendido
Public bug reported:

LinuxInterfaceDriver plug and unplug in derived classes already check if
the device exists. There's no need to duplicate the check in the code
that is calling those methods. See l3_agent.py in internal_network_added
for example:

if not ip_lib.device_exists(interface_name,
root_helper=self.root_helper,
namespace=ri.ns_name):
self.driver.plug(network_id, port_id, interface_name, mac_address,
 namespace=ri.ns_name,
 prefix=INTERNAL_DEV_PREFIX)

the check "if not ip_lib.device_exists" is a duplicate and it's
expensive.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1337275] Re: fail to launch more than 12 instances after updating qouta with 'PortLimitExceeded: Maximum number of ports exceeded'

2014-07-03 Thread Rossella Sblendido
You should modify the port quota and use something > 100 if you plan to launch
100 instances. Some ports are created automatically by Neutron and are included
in the quota (like dhcp ports for example).
Modify the port quota in horizon. Or you can use the command line, specifying
in the credential OS_USERNAME=admin_user, OS_TENANT_NAME=
tenant_that_will_create_the_VMs

neutron quota-update --port 120

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1334323] Re: Check ips availability before adding network to DHCP agent

2014-06-26 Thread Rossella Sblendido
Hello mouadino,
thanks for filing this bug.
This is the expected behavior, every dhcp agent will have a port on a network.
You should take this into account when you create the allocation pool.
If you want to change this behavior I suggest you file a blueprint instead of a
bug.

Title:
Check ips availability before adding network to DHCP agent

Status in OpenStack Neutron (virtual network service):
  Opinion

Bug description:
  Hi there,

  How to reproduce ?
  ===

First of all it's better to use HA DHCP agent, i.e. running more than
one DHCP agent, and setting the dhcp_agents_per_network to the number
of DHCP agent that you're running.

Now for the sake of this example let's say that
  dhcp_agents_per_network=3.

Now create a network with a subnet /30 for example or big subnet e..g
/24 but with a smaller allocation pool e.g that contain only 1 or 2
  ips..

  What happen ?

A lot of exception start showing up in the logs in the form:

IpAddressGenerationFailure: No more IP addresses available on
  network

  What happen really ?

Our small network was basically scheduled to all DHCP agents that are
up and active and each one of them will try to create a port for him
self, but because our small network has less IPs than
dhcp_agents_per_network, then some of this port will fail to be
created, and this will happen each iteration of the DHCP agent main
  loop.

Another case where if you have more than one subnet in a network, and
one of them is pretty small e.g.

  net1 -> subnet1 10.0.0.0/24
subnet2 10.10.0.0/30

Than errors also start to happen in every iteration of the dhcp agent.

  What is expected ?
  ===

IMHO only agent that can handle the network should hold this later,
and a direct call to add a network to a DHCP agent should also fail if
there is no IPs left to satisfy the new DHCP port creation.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1332481] Re: Creating and deleting the vm port multiple times the allocated ips are not used automatically

2014-06-20 Thread Rossella Sblendido
This is the expected behavior. This change https://review.openstack.org/58017
modified the way IP are recycled.
Instead of being recycled immediately after the release of a port, the complex
operation of rebuilding the availability table is performed when the table is
exhausted

Bug description:
DESCRIPTION: Creating and deleting the vm port multiple times the
allocated ips are not reused while spawning the new vm port

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Create a network.
  2. Create a subnet 10.10.1.0/24
  3. Spawned a vm make sure vm got the ip. (say 10.10.1.2)
  4. Delete the vm
  5. Spawned another vm make sure its gets the ip .
  6. Make sure in the port list the previous allocated ip is not listed.

Actual Results: VM get the next ip (10.10.1.3 ) not the ip that got
  released.

Expected Results: VM should get the relased ips.
