The message for {{yarn-default.xml}} could be a bit clearer. What about something like, "This property configuration sets the maximum amount of CPU resources that can be consumed by a single container when yarn.nodemanager.linux-container-executor.cgroups.strict-resource-usage is set to true, as a multiple of the number of vcores assigned to the container. Please fix the outstanding checkstyle issues. Just a note on the overall design. I think the patch does it correctly, it allows a higher limit to be set in case of strict mode, not affecting non-strict mode. In a future jira we may consider mixing the two, allowing weights to be set with a strict limit. YARN-5936 talked about the fairness of cpu-scheduling between containers. In my cluster, this works well because of the same cpu.shares. The same cpu.shares assures the lower limit of cpu-usage between containers. What I saying is the upper limit of cpu-usage for a container.
