Currently, there is no provision for a user to create smart
collections. Collections are static and don't change unless you
specifically drag an item to/from the collection. OTOH, tag
collections are dynamic. Simply adding one of the tags being
grouped by a given tag collection to an item will cause that
item to appear in the tag collection.

FWIW, I've used Missing Sync with a Treo (and its predecessors :) for quite
some time.

With the caveat that I haven't tried the current version's Yojimbo note
syncing yet :-), Missing Sync works well for me overall -- the only issue
I've had is that sometimes contact details get miscategorized (e.g. a
'home' address being relabelled as 'work').

I've been using the Missing Sync for several months now. I had lots of
issues and finally learned to "live carefully", so that it works for
me. As an example, I never touch the calendar categories on my Palm, if
I do, things always blow up (miscategorized entries, duplicates, etc).
It kind of works now, but I don't fully trust it.

and you're willing to live with the limitations.

I've been considering upgrading to version 6 to get Yojimbo support, but
frankly, I regret even spending $40 on this software, and when I think
it is going to be a $65 unreliable sync solution, that makes me cringe.

User-Created Smart Collections?

2007-06-12 Thread Conrad Albrecht-Buehler

I'm fairly new to Yojimbo, but I've read through the FAQ and I've searched
the mailing list archives and couldn't find mention of this:
Can users create their Smart Collections based on other search criteria?
Tag Collections require me to tag the files, but I'd like to create Smart
Collections that list files based on the same criteria I use to search the
Yojimbo library.

For example, if I wanted to use Yojimbo to do GTD, I might want to keep a
Smart Collection of all my notes that contain the term "@Home" in the note's
content.

Is there any way for me to make my own Smart Collections?

Thanks,
Conrad

I've heard concerns about data loss when moving to Missing Sync. Have
you had any problems?

Also, other than Yojimbo, is it worth the steep price?

Thanks,

Andrew

Now all of my notes designated for the Treo can also be stored in
Yojimbo. No more need for Soho Notes...

Thanks, Rhet :-) I've downloaded and found it to be exactly the simple,
straight-forward functionality that I was seeking. I already have been using
"Combine PDFs" and it too is quick and easy to use.

For my purposes, having the PNG -- or a PDF containing it -- is not essential.
The work-around provided today by Bare Bones, pasting the PNG into a new note
to create a rich text representation, will serve until such time as Yojimbo
support for direct storage of images is available.

Re: PNG - PDF

2007-06-12 Thread Bobbie
Following a suggestion from Bare Bones, I created a new 'Note' and drag/dropped
a PNG file into it. The result is Rich Text; it looks exactly like the PNG (as
one would hope), without the apparent loss of quality experienced when printing
to PDF from Apple Preview, and suits my purposes OK :-)
