Quick Input Panel

I read through this list's charter, and I think I am staying within  
bounds by starting this conversation.  If I am not inbounds, I  
apologize.


I have owned Yojimbo since it's release, but adopted it very slowly.  
Iit has now basically become the main application I use to manage  
transient information on my primary work computer.  (I use Devonthink  
to manage long term storage of information.)  The main reason that  
Yojimbo won for the day to day use was the tagging infrastructure.   
However, the way things are currently set up, I typically have  
information that I have added during the course of the day, and then  
have to go through all the new stuff and tag it.


I would love it if the quick input dock also included tag entry.  It  
would save me an extra step on literally every piece of textual  
information that I enter into Yojimbo.   I understand that with things  
like Web archives and pdf's I would still have to do step two.


A second addition that would be very helpful to me, personally, would  
be the ability to have tags added to items automatically by placing  
them in a collection.


I know that Bare Bones does not discuss future versions, features of  
future versions etc.  I am, however, curious if other users think  
these suggestions make sense, or if I am using the app in a different  
manner than others.  My use is totally dependent on the tagging  
infrastructure.

The Quick Input panel (the small window in the upper right, usually  
accessed through F8) does support tagging.




Wow.  I wouldn't have guessed that the triangle to the right in the  
Quick Input Panel would yield a tag field.


In the future, I will read the docs more carefully, thanks for your  
response and the link to the dock script.

Out of curiosity, I just tried this on my machine, and it worked fine,  
without the error you are getting.

Question about Mail Message Drop Dock Behavior

I have a question about mail message drop dock behavior.

I use two mail clients on my machine, Entourage for work email and  
Mail.app for personal email.  Dragging a message from each of these to  
the Drop Dock results in a different behavior from Yojimbo.  I don't  
see any easy way to make it so that both do the same thing, which is  
the behavior that I want.


1) Entourage:  I drag a mail message to Yojimbo Drop Dock.  This  
results in a note object with the header+body of the email in the note  
text.  Awesome.  What I want.


2) Mail.app:  I drag mail message to Yojimbo Drop Dock.  This results  
in a Bookmark object.  Not what I want.  I also have the "When  
Handling URL's"  preference set to "Web Archives"


Isn't this bookmark a URL?  If so, shouldn't this behavior respect the  
preference for URL's?  I delete email, so I want to make a Yojimbo  
copy of it.


For now I will just keep copying the entire body text.  The issue with  
that is that it loses the context I would have gotten from the header  
information.  That context is critical in my opinion.


Anyone have a workaround or other method to accomplish what I am  
trying to do?

Lazyemaillist Question

In an attempt to be lazy, does anyone have an Applescript to pull in a  
list of unarchived urls from del.icio.us and archive them in Yojimbo?


I wrote a similar script for DevonThink, but would like to use Yojimbo  
to route some stories too.

Question: Tag Case

Tags in Yojimbo are case insensitive, correct?

If so, why does the app insist on lowercasing the first letter of tags  
I input manually?

How do I add supported extensions

I occasionally drag xml files to Yojimbo for later reference.

I am working with some Web Services today, and notice that Yojimbo  
doesn't recognize .wsdl files as xml files.  Is there a way to add  
that extension to Yojimbo's supported file types, since it's plain  
olde™ xml?

Leopard has been out "a long time" ?  Less than a year is not a long  
time, unless you are a toddler.


I suspect you did not read Rich's reply carefully, or you did not  
understand it.   Bare Bones built Yojimbo on top of Apple's  
technologies.  It's reasonable for them to expect that Apple's  
subsequent technologies would be compatible or will be eventually made  
to be compatible.


If you aren't interested in reading the answer, why did you ask the  
question in the first place?  You were technologically prescriptive in  
your question, and then you get angry because their answer is explicit?


I think that Rich's response was appropriate.  You are starting to  
sound like you want a pony.
