Re: [Zappa-List] CD Software
Yeah, i think nero does it, but if i'm not mistaken you must check disc at once somewhere. If you do it using track at once you'll have the annoying gaps. A probably better method though is to use Exact Audio Copy, then you could extract the whole disc as a big wav file, plus a cuesheet file. The cuesheet file would then have the information for burning the big wave file separating each track precisely like the source. Re: [Zappa-List] Pruners to our vines
It was the BBC Radio Jazz from Hell shows, and the GTOs album was there as a bonus, everything in data format, not audio, in the same cd. Now, I was the last person to pass it along, and the story then goes pretty much as Marco´s. Except that he is a smarter person than I am. While he´s trying to keep the MITB vine alive, I only tried to contact the next person in the vine list (to see if he got the cd I had sent) and never got an answer. A long time has passed since then, but I suppose I can make a copy of my cd and send it to the next person in the list after the member who couldn´t do his part, if you guys still want it. Re: [Zappa-List] A Question of DVD formats
You´re pretty much right on most of it, Richard. About pal-m however, it´s not compatible with european Pal because pal-m was developed here by the military as a way of protecting the brazilian tv industry (or so they thought, i´m simplifying the story a lot here). It´s actually a modification of pal, but we´re the only ones who use this format. Nowadays most tvs here understand both pal-m and ntsc, but almost every digital equipment around only work in ntsc, i think even tv stations do all their stuff on ntsc and convert it only when they broadcast. Now guess what, the morons here want to do the same mistake again and make our own digital tv system, instead of picking the same one most people in the rest of the world will soon be using. Bah. Gabriel On 5/17/05, Richard [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I am probably wrong, but I would say that M would probably be compatible with the UK PAL system. I have noticed on some old cordless home TV distribution systems, a switch which changes the PAL system transmitter between two different pal systems. To my recollection it didn't make a lot of difference, possibly the sound was different slightly, could be mistaken there though. That was some years ago and auto sensing circuitry would cover that issue now in even the cheapest DVD player. Most incompatibilities these days are deliberately built in to make companies rich, not because they are genuinely incompatible. Like region codes! The original reason that pal secam and ntsc exist is all down to when countries went colour and what technology was available, cos you couldn't keep asking your public to buy new compatibleTV's every time there was a breakthrough. Yet you wanted more reliable transmission systems. NTSC used to be known as Never The Same Colour twice by its PAL competitors. - Original Message - From: Gabriel To: Zappa-List@yahoogroups.com Sent: Tuesday, May 17, 2005 4:24 PM Subject: Re: [Zappa-List] A Question of DVD formats Brazil uses its own format called Pal-m. Re: [Zappa-List] Early 80s
-I agree. Zappa's orchestral oriented material in general takes some time to get into for most people. If you can start out being able to accept and digest pieces like The Adventures of Greggary Peccary and Revised Music For Guitar and Low Budget Orchestra, you can kind of ease yourself into Orchestral Favorites and the orchestral parts of 200 Motels and eventually move on to, let's say, the arrangements of older material on The Yellow Shark and eventually be able to arrive at appreciating the LSO recordings (although I would have to say that's my least favorite batch of all the orchestral type material). Actually I love all of those, except for Yellow Shark (because I heard so few of it). My problem is quite the opposite. I asked the early 80s question in first place because I don't care that much about some of the 'normal' music fz did. I listened to YAWYI once and found only a couple of songs or so memorable, along with the Sinister Footwear one obviously. I didn't discard it, whenever I get a chance to listen to that album again I will do so, but I'd like to go first for the stuff that emphasizes instrumentals more in that period. Yahoo! Re: [Zappa-List] REOFFER - Buffalo speed corrected + mystery disc
-Wait a minute.. Burn At Once can simply convert copied-from-disc FLAC files into CD-ready .wav files without trouble. I wasn't aware of that at all! I'm kind of new to Burn At Once but I'm very very happy with the results I've had burning discs with it so far.
