[Zappa-List] Bobby Martin's cheesy vocals

[Michael]

Ok Bobby Martin did a great job with the more cartoonish vocals in Tinsel Town 
Rebellion and Honey Don't You Want a Man Like Me? but other than that he has 
that cheesy annoying 80's white blues vocals that belongs more in 1980's 
American action figure commercials than in Zappa's music.  How could Zappa have 
allowed him to sing songs live like Illinois Enema Bandit and Zombie Woof, 
songs that Ray White or Ike Willis should have sang?!

Actually, I don't necessarily like one over the other either, I just like the 
aspect of more prominent drums and bass in the mix better, and in that respect 
I think the 1984 mix of We're Only In It For The Money has more punch and drive 
rhythmically. I do
prefer the original Cruising With Ruben and the Jets however.

[Zappa-List] old Mothers albums mixes

Does anyone know why the early Mothers of Invention albums (the first 3) have 
the bass and especially drums so low in the mix? I'm surprised these haven't 
been re-mixed by Joe Travers and Dweezil. I like the later  1984 mix of We're 
Only in it for the Money with Chad Wackerman on drums and Arthur Barrow on bass 
because the drums and bass are more prominent in the mix and other aspects of 
the songs seem to be remixed as well, enhancing the songs.

my brother and i are huge zappa fans but we have completely different parts of 
his catalogue..i went the live route and YCDTOSA was my first glimpse into 
zappa..all 6 volumes (2 discs each) are worth having each disc has a theme with 
liner notes by frank..volume 7 is sex oriented..volume 5 disc teo is a mind 
blowing compilation of franks "favorite" 1982 ensemble..u know vol 2 is the 
helsinki concert..and so on..second only to the shut up and play yer guitar 
series..so get yer butt on amazon and get a copy..u wont regret it
