[Zim-wiki] Zim 0.73.4 and OS Windows: Terrible slow - any way to debug?

2021-02-17 Thread Udo Weik

Hello,

yep, any suggestions? I just tried a new notebook with four empty
pages:
Home
  Test1
Test1_1
  Test2
Test2_1

Especially switching between pages (via mouse) lasts ages (>5s). Can
I debug that behaviour in any way?

Is a problem since I use 0.7x!

Many thanks and greetings
Udo

[Zim-wiki] Zim 0.73.4 (OS Windows): index.db still created in folder \cache

2020-12-03 Thread Udo Weik

Hello again,

many thanks for all your efforts, especially Zim 0.7 for OS Windows
guys!

First steps with Zim 0.7, used 0.6 until some days ago!

Even with shared=False in notebook.zim there is still index.db created in
%appdata%/zim/cache

OS Windows - environement variable with or without '$'?
XDG_CONFIG_HOME (seems to work)
or
$XDG_CONFIG_HOME
?

Any hints are highly appreciated!

Stay healthy!
Many thanks and greetings

How is that for a catchy title!?

I've been using Zim almost every day (Mo-Fr) for about 5yrs.
I recently wondered if there was anything comparable out there and had a look,
but couldn't find anything that I preferred.

A couple of candidates that are close are CherryTree and Tiddlywiki.
I gave TiddlyWiki about 30min of my time, but found it very non-intuitive and
gave up. I felt it was something for web developers!

Confluence looks OK if you don't mind the big java footprint, but it's designed
for workgroups.

What have you used before moving to Zim Wiki?
Ever tested other products since?

[Zim-wiki] Word boundaries: Configurable via regex

Hello,

E. g. when I double click on Vmdk2Phys only Vmdk is maked.
Therefore I'm looking for a way to configure the word bound-

[Zim-wiki] Better bookmark management

2017-07-12 Thread Udo Weik

Hello again,

my Zim Desktop Wiki consists of ~3000 pages.

I need a better bookmark management. Plugin BookmarksBar
only supports up to 20 bookmark buttons:
Zim - a desktop wiki
http://zim-wiki.org/manual/Plugins/BookmarksBar.html

I'm looking for an menu based bookmark manager, like
the ones in internet browsers.

I want to avoid to split my Wiki in three or more parts.

Remember, I'm the OS Windows guy (with that NASTY copy
problem)!

Any hints are highly appreciated!

[Zim-wiki] Notebooks on a share drive: Problems with index

2016-06-27 Thread Udo Weik

Hello again,

yep, missing files on my notebook. Index refresh didn't work.
From the zim-wike, topic "Notebooks on a share drive": »To avoid
such issues, enable the "shared notebook" option either in the
properties dialog, or by modifying the notebook.zim config file.«

The notebook.zim looks like:
[Notebook]

shared=True
...

Is that correct? Where can I find the "shared notebook" option
in the properties dialog?

I even deleted the local cache. Any hints?

[Zim-wiki] WIN, Microsoft Compiled HTML Help: Links don't work

2016-05-24 Thread Udo Weik

Hello,

there are problems with links to CHM pages. Concerning CHM - for
the non-WIN audience, please take a look here:
Microsoft Compiled HTML Help - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Compiled_HTML_Help

A link, which can be copied to the clipboard via the system
menu (click on the left icon with the '?' in the title bar of
the help viewer, or press [Alt+Space]) and then the item with
"URL", looks like
mk:@MSITStore:DRIVE:\PATH_TO_CHM\FILE.chm::/PAGE1/PAGE1.1/PAGE.htm

When such a link is inserted in a ZIM-page, clicking results in an
error message and updating indexes, too - something like "Invalid

[Zim-wiki] Two catastrophic Show Killers...

2015-05-21 Thread Udo Weik

Hello again,

2. Custom Tools: Option "Command does not modify data" and AutoHotkey:
I want to start an AutoHotkey script (compiled, that means as executable)
as custom tool. That script activates Firefox, copies something from an
internet page to the clipboard, activates Zim again and pastes the content
of the clipboard in the current Zim page. And the mouse is restored to the
original Zim position.

Summarized, the script doesn't modify data. When I select that option, I
get an eror message that it wasn't possible to start the script. Any hints?

See:
https://lists.launchpad.net/zim-wiki/msg03321.html
UNFORTUNATELY NO ANSWERS YET!

Until these two problems aren't solved, I can't recommend Zim for any
professional use. And I really regret that!

[Zim-wiki] More convenient way to use file links (OS Windows)/Regex triggered actions

Hello again,

there should be (an) option(s) that Windows file links are recognized with
the standard separator '\' and without the "file:///" prefix.

In that context:
Regex triggered actions would be really valuable, managed by an file:
Regex=Action

Whenever the Regex is found in an text, the action is executed. With
some options like
1. Executed on demand
2. Executed one time
3. Excuted on text change

Re: [Zim-wiki] Startup- and shutdown-code

2015-02-09 Thread Udo Weik

Hello Jaap,

I always forget to mention that I'm using Windows 7 Professional, 64 Bit SP1,
sorry!

So to make it concrete, if I understand correctly:
1/ at startup: set environment parameters for locale settings
2/ at shutdown: trigger backup copy commands

For 1/ I would suggest either setting them permanently in your environment (are
you on linux,
windows, ... ?) so you don't have to do it per application. If for some reason
you need to do
it on run time, you should do it with a bash or bat file and set the
environment before start-
ing zim. Reason is that once locale is initialized it is hard to change it on
runtime.

I must change localization settings in Python itself - for the templates like
the language for
calendar date (e. g. names of the days/months) and the date/time format itself
(order of
day/month/year, delimiter and so on).

For 2/ I would suggest you define a "custom tool", that way you can have a back
up button in the
toolbar and click it before closing down. If you really want it on shutdown,
you would write a
small plugin that connects to the exit signal of the application. See e.g. the
versioncontrol
plugins for an example, they do the same.

Yep, that would work - same idea. But an automatism would be great. As I stated
first:
Startup- and shutdown-code!

Many thanks and greetings
Udo

Re: [Zim-wiki] Fwd: Windows 7: Inserting special chars like guillemets/angle quotes with [ALT+NumpadNumber]

2015-01-21 Thread Udo Weik

Hello Marco,

I asked pretty much the same time ago and the answer was to use the HTML escape
codes.
You should type an inverted slash \ followed by the escaped character code,
that is:

& l d q u o ; for inverted commas “
& r a r r ; for a right arrow →

etc.

For French quotes they are:

& r a q u o ;

and

& l a q u o ;

I've added blanks between the letters in order to avoid rendering of the
characters in this very message. You should type the code altogether and the
special character will appear after you type the
last character of the code.

but Zim doesn't support [ALT+NumpadNumber].

And I can't use the Symbol dialog, because I use automation
for inserting these symbols.

Any hints?

Many thanks and greetings
Udo

where/how can I use startup- and shutdown-code. After Zim is started, I want

I want to save my notebooks (shutdown-code).

Hello,

is it in any way possible to show a line between the nodes in the index tree,
so that the tree really looks like a tree?

you made not only my day, but the entire year 2015! That was indeed a fabulous
hint
with a network drive. Yep, two eyes and one brain more. Life is sometimes
difficult
as lone warrior!

Now I can dig into Zim Desktop Wiki. A new phase in my life...
