never dived into it, but i can imagine there are small gadgets around, i can't find my minidisc player (recorder), which i sometimes use to record liveset or dj set but i think some of the same are around, but which record as mp3? so i don't need to record the minidisc first as audio, then

I have the Iriver 340 its coming up to 3 years old now, it has a line/mic in for mp3 recording and I think you can record in a range of bit rates up to 320kbps or as wav. Seem to be really stable and hasn't ever crashed on me. At the time it outperfomed many products on the market as it had

The iAudio mp3 players are also very highly regarded. There is a small dongle required for line-in recording, but for most people it's not an issue to carry that around. A friend just got the X5 and it looks well nice. He's a heavy user and very happy with it. These have definitely got iRivers
