As a reward for hard work and endurance during out recent fundraiser,
the management at KFJC has declared a "Freak Week" (it started last
Saturday at 9:00AM). Freak Week means that other than certain FCC
obligations, everything goes music-wise (check the playlists since then
to see what that means). My bit is coming up tomorrow night, and I want
to take the opportunity to introduce listeners to the breadth and depth
available in our music library. We have over 65,000 physical titles of
all sorts. Since 1995, I've been laboring to judiciously stock the
library with techno/Detroit/ambient/IDM treasures of all sorts. Tomorrow
night, I'm going to drag about 30-40 bits from our archive of electronic
releases, focusing on collections, and cobble together a set on the fly.
Some will be old friends, and some will be titles I reviewed back in the
early 90's and forgot. I can't tell you what exactly will be on the
bill, as a lot of selections will be chance encounters. This means that
I'll be doing even more genre-blending than usual. I'm making it a
trifle easy on myself and seeding the selection with a couple of titles
from my home stock - the excellent "Freestyle Candies" compilation on
Klang Elektronik, and "Out There - A Thread Though Time", a very
eclectic 4 X12" collection on Pi Recordings. There may be one more seed
compilation if I can find it in time for the show.
If you want to know what went down last week, check here -

"The Wild Kingdom" airs on KFJC-FM 89.7, Friday Night/Saturday Morning,
10P-2A (6A-10A GMT). Potential listeners outside the San Francisco Bay
area can find a webcast at http://www.kfjc.org/netcast/index.php .
Present and past Wild Kingdom playlists are also archived at kfjc.org.
You can also check out archived playlists from my first KFJC show "Just
Desserts" that was on Fridays 10P-2A from 1992 through 1999. Archived
playlists exist for that show starting from Fall 1995 to New Year's Eve
1999/2000, so you can see what what I'm up to these days is pretty much
consistent with what I was up to all along.
If you do tune in (especially via the web), please take a little time to
let me know your locale. I'm also interested in promo music from all
over and in promoting local (San Francisco Bay area) techno-type events.
If you want to do some promotion for an event, contact the KFJC
promotions department at pr...@kfjc.org to arrange ticket giveaways
and/or to send information for inclusion in our concert outlook. Thanks
to those who have sent promo music so far.
Regards,
Richard Hester
