Friday Oct 24 Penetrate CMH Alex Attias London,UK Do not sleep on this talented dj/producer and night with a great vibe
October 24th at the Standard Lounge in Columbus, OH Penetrate is a series of events dedicated to showcasing the emerging UK Broken Beat genre through performances by internationally and nationally renown acts. Broken Beat is the newest addition to the plethora of sub-genres that fall under the broader electronic music genre. While definitely related to and influenced by the other styles, Broken Beat also known as Future Jazz or Nu Jazz, differentiates itself from the pack by fusing jazz rhythmic patterns, and improvisational composition with organic and electronic elements. The origins of the genre can be traced back to the late 90's in West London where a handful of talented and respected electronic musicians began to break the mold and produce music that defied categorization. Led by luminaries such as Jazzanova, Giles Peterson, and the Bugz in the Attic collective, the genre began to take root and garner international attention. For October's Penetrate, we are pleased to bring Visions Recordings label-head and Ubiquity, Compost, Nepenta, Bitasweet, People, and Neroli recording artist Alex Attias. A prolific producer and remix artist, Alex Attias will be coming all the way from London for his first Ohio appearance. Opening DJ sets will be provided by Penetrate resident DJ's Titonton Duvanté and Thomas James. Artist Biographies: Alex Attias: London-based, Swiss producer Alex Attias has established himself as a key player in the broken beat/ future jazz scene. In addition to his solo work which is released under his birth-name as well as the aliases Mustang, and Catalyst, he also collaborates with several other talented producers. The album featured guest appearances by Stones Throw's Quasimoto aka Madlib as well as Colonel Red among others. Under the alias Plutonia, he has collaborated with legendary producer Dego of 4Hero fame for his own Visions imprint, earning the duo appearances on the influential "Future Sound of Jazz" and "Freezone" compilations.
