I don't buy the argument that house and techno were the same thing because people would call "Nude Photo" , "Off To Battle" and "No UFOs" DETROIT TECHNO. Detroit techno had its own characteristic sound even though it used some of the same elements of Chicago house. Inner City was vocal house but it had a distinct Detroit techno quality that distinguished it from Jersey garage or Chicago house.

That was called Detroit techno, in fact I remember people in the late 80's associated labels like Transmat, KMS, Metroplex with Detroit techno.
