WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

Yeah this is properly the best description for the whole night. All he
DJ's played brilliant sets. Mr. Hood just did what we all expected but he
still blew me away. Amazing how funky minimal techno can be, he definitely
is the master of the minimal nation.

i really really enjoyed the night myself as well .
everybody seemed to be in a perfect party mood,
very fine music, beer tasted nice, warm atmosphere

for some reason i seemed stuck in the lounge.. ;)
which got people dancing as well

one of the better parties this year
and big props to sander doing this thing !!
very curious for the next one

WOW is right!!!!!!

(in case some don't know, I was in Utrecht for Rob Hood, and in Ghent for I love Techno [Jeff Mills, Monika Kruse, Richie Hawtin, Speedy J (live!!!!))

So here are some abbreviated reviews:

Rob Hood-

There were more Detroit Techno shirts at this party then I have seen at most Detroit parties!!! Truly a crowd devoted to Detroit Techno. Major props to the guys in Utrecht for a great night. Zero One did a great job opening, and Rob was really on fire. He did some real neat tricks as well as seamless mixing and had great track selection- which was really liberal for him (even included some John Salway, Ian Void, a Christian Smith track) and of course, loads of good Detroit minimalism. Otto, KJ, Marsel, Roland and all of the crew were there having quite a wonderful time, and my wife and I had a great evening which was topped off by being able to meet Rob and his wife and chat for a few hours (what an incredible personality Rob Hood is.)

I Love Techno-

Now - I know that the Belgian and Dutch 313 guys were staying away from this as it was a very huge rave.... but it was really well planned and executed. Among all of the superior performances, the one of the night had to have been Speedy J live. Jocham Paap was really on fire when He opened with a mix of Electric Deluxe that was off the hook. He continued this mix for about 15 min. just changing the Kick drum pattern all crazy. He then dug into a few songs that were semi recent before doing a Plus 8 tour which was capped off with a finale of the ever popular "pullover", that was really amazing!!!! Also among the best of the night was Monika Kruse (who was apparently sick - but still cranked out a highly respectable and quite energetic set) She started with some crazy vocals by a screwed up guy, and she was messing with all kinds of effects on it and then she dropped in some pretty good tracks including Spastik, ADam Beyer(off of protechtion), and some G-force remixes of her own tracks!! (good stuff!) Justin Berkovi did a pretty cool live show, although he was using only a Roland TR909 and a Yamaha RMX1 with effects and a CD player. Jeff Mills played some really great tracks including (of course) Jaguar, Bells, alarms(first mix), in the bush, l8, black is the number, some Marco Carola 1000 stuff, Gaetek rmx of Mole by Joel Mull, and some other really great tracks, but he was never really in the "mills" mode, and even had a couple of horrendous train wrecks, one was so bad that he had to backspin out of it after a couple measures.
Marco carola had a really impressive set and has imacculate track selection.

The party was thrown in a large expo hall with five rooms each being so large as to accomadate at least 5-6 thousand comfortably, and a main hall connecting them all. There were over 30 thousand poeple there, and some of the set-ups were really amazing. Each room had a seperate type of set-up (meaning that the ways in which the stage and lights and tv monitors were set-up was individual to each rooom, and very impressive too.) One room had a large Bridge that you had to walk under after coming in, and then upon turning around you could see the Dj who was performing, another room had super large video camera booms that were being remotely contolled and played in time with the music. Another room had 20 or so monitors stacked to make a big screen that would seperate into seperate screens for cool effects every now and then... and so on.

Afterwards, I was able to meet Stanny Frassens (G-Force), and Monika Kruse who are both super cool people and very talented musicians.

Thanks to all of the 313ers who helped my wife and I out on our weekend vacation Especially Belgium's own Global Warning - John Osselaer and his g\f Annik who made us really good meals!!!!!

Thanks guys
Cheers!
Dennis
