As far as recent melodic/ambient IDM, I suggest the "Slag Boom Van Loon" eponymous album on Planet Mu. Really ace collaboration between Speedy J and Mu-Ziq. A so-so collection of remixes of this stuff came out this year under the title "So Soon," but I recommend the original if you can find it.
