I Have to wonder if you are going this far to run 389 on RHEL 6.1 that you dont
go a little further and try FreeIPA which is also a tech preview in 6.1.

free-ipa packages which seems to use parts of 389.so Im wondering if there
is any compile/build differences for the 389 stuff in RHEL6 to suit free
