I am using an Asus router and am very happy with it. There is a third party
guru who is always patching and fixing. I am not on a gig network but
constantly get wireless speeds close to what my sip (RCN) provides

After the last big company router stopped getting software and security
updates, I switched to using routers that support pfSense. It is a highly
regarded open source router implementation which includes OpenVPN. Lots of
hardware options are available including running it on your own. Here is a
