based upon your dmesg output, it looks like 1 of three things: bad cable, bad
card, or bad switch. I would lean toward the first or last option. On the
forums someone suggested you try knoppix. If it still has the same problem
there, then I'd try a new cable, then switch...

I have an odd problem. I nuked my laptop and reinstalled Gentoo on it, and
now my ethernet card only intermittedly works. It works for like 30
minutes, and then takes a dump. Any ideas of what I might do to fix it?
