paul reed kindly dug up his code. it runs as part of the 9load
startup process. it would be difficult to tweak video bios from
the normal kernel. perhaps worthwhile.
i put the code up at /n/sources/contrib/quanstro/src/9loadaoe.
the special file is patchvesa.c.
