work around.
the real problem is the fact we insist on an "a" record when there's
only a cname listed. normally dns gets away with this bug
because restarting the query looking for a cname works.
unfortunately, in this case, the ttl is 20s, so that expires before
we timeout the first query. ther
lookups of m.bestofmedia.com and media.bestofmicro.com
seem to be tripping on themselves. dnsdebug comes up with
the correct answer relatively quickly unless a type of "a" is
explicitly requested, then things go pear shaped. here's
an example:
