Thanks Ivan but I fixed it! I actually ran Services.msc, went to
System Restore and disabled it. I could then open SR from the My
Computer/System Properties tab and unchecked the 'off' box. It now
works OK whereas before I could'nt even open the facility.

Well according to your fellow countryman in Ontario, N. Thomas, Maxtor
do not have a reputation for reliability. I have in fact heard this
from other sources but Maxtor are usually the cheapest buy.
Out of interest, what is the tax % on such goods in Canada?
