G'day Sherri
I have similar problems yesterday, I would suggest that you have a look
at the email I sent to the list a few moments ago "Sound card problems".
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Jason.

G'day All
I thought I would write an email detailing problems I recently came
across using a Sound Blaster Live Sound Card and Fedora Core 4.
Yesterday, I did a complete upgrade of my Access Grid operating system
from FC3 and AG2.3 to Fedora Core 4 and AG 2.4. Everything went quite
well, except
I am able to use the AG from home using a DSL connection and a Linksys router
using unicast connections to an appropriate bridged venue.
In order to receive video, you have to setup port forwarding so that the video
packets that arrive on arbitrary ports at your router are directed to the

Hello all,
Is there a list of testing rooms? We're testing our echo-cancellation
system and I can't find anyone else in any venue! (on IVS)
Where is the "common" place to park your node for testing?
Thanks

Thanks for all of your feedback on the video capture card.
Another $100 question: Let's say that I am in the NCSA lobby. Using the same
venue client setup, I am not getting any incoming video in bridged unicast (vic
will sit there forever waiting). Incoming audio is fine and others can see and
As to the drivers you want installed, the VFW drivers (which are older) will
appear as multiple distinct devices to vic, and avoid the problem of having to
switch the source each time you change venues.

Hi all,
We have set up a 2 computer accessgrid using Windows(Display) and FC4 Linux
(Audio/Video Capture). We have used the AG2.4 toolkit. Right now we are in
the NCSA Lobby via the AG connector (good stuff!). The problem is that we
can see and hear everyone, but we cannot talk. Attached some scr
Zsolt,
I have gotten multiple Hauppauge Win TV capture cards to work on Windows XP. I
bought the cards in 2001. They came with CDs. I used the CD to install the
cards. The tricks are simple:
Don't run the AG Venue Client yet,

We are using the Hauppauge Impact VCB's for our capture which use the bttv
drivers. They are
straight capture (no tuner) which is fine for us - and cheap ($70 Canadian
each). Haven't tried them
on Windows, but thought I'd throw it out there...

Hi Zsolt,
About 4 months ago I was going through the same problem. I had purchased 4
WinTV PVR 150s thinking that it would be a very good solution for the AG
cosidering its hardware MPEG2 and less load on the CPU and all. The problem
however is however that with hardware mpeg capture cards ther
Yes...but only 1. If you have multiple's or a USB cam or any other video
device for that matter it won't work. I have a WinTV card on my desktop
machine and don't have any problems. But add another video device and
well.

Dude, like I said the other day. The new cards suck. :) As I (and
others) have mentioned, try Osprey 100s. For how much time you spent on
it you could have afforded a few of them by now :D

Hi,
I believe we use 4 of the WinTV cards in our XP SP2 machine, but it did take
some work to get it going. We actually had to use a different driver for them,
no Hauppauge driver did the trick, so we are using the BtPCI WDM driver, which
I found on Google. If memory serves, you install this a
We went the easy way out and installed Osprey 100's when we switched to
Windows. I suggest doing the same.

Anybody, ever installed a Hauppauge WinTV video capture card on a WinXP Pro SP2
that actually WORKED with the AG Venue client??? I have spent days with this
thing and I am desperate here. What other cards do you have for this particular
setup that works for you?
THANKS.

I have used it with my cable modem without much fuss (unicast only though).

Salut Marie-Noelle,
Firstly, are you sure you want to use the "Mix Ana" setting (also called
"Wave Out Mix" on some cards)? This sends as your audio signal the *output*
from your soundcard, i.e. what you'd normally hear. I would have thought
that "Microphone" would normally be more appropriate...
This is just to tell everyone with whom I've had the pleasure of
working on the Access Grid, in the US and the UK, that I am taking

When we first set up the RAL node, one of the first of the UK eScience

Has anyone had any issues with inSORS technology connecting into the AG venue?
If you have an inSORS solution, how did it go for you?
