Inheritor's ordeal

Nila Chatterjee (name changed) works as a cook and helper at a Sovabazar 
residence for Rs 600 a month. She looks frail in her worn-out clothes, but her 
smile exudes warmth. "I cook, go to the bazaar and look after mashima. I don't 
need much money. I keep most of it in a bank where I have a fixed deposit 
account," she says softly. Nila is also a graduate and now she has chanced upon 
Rs 5 lakh. A resident of Dum Dum, Nila suffered from schizophrenia in her 
adolescence. After the death of her parents, her relatives admitted her to 
Lumbini Park Mental Hospital in 2002, where she remained till 2009.

Supreme Court Ensures that the Voice of Women with Disabilities Will Be Heard 
by Courts

Today the Supreme Court of Canada decided that people with intellectual 
disabilities should be allowed to testify in court.  Specifically, the question 
before the Court was whether people with intellectual disabilities are required 
to demonstrate an understanding of the concept of a "promise to tell the truth" 
in order to be permitted to testify.
