The workshop on "Empowering Strategies for Young Visually Impaired Bankers" was organized by Assistive Technology Helpline of NAB Delhi on 14th December 2013. The response to the workshop was enthusiastically positive and we got constructive feedback from the participants. National Association for the Blind Delhi Helpline has plans to empower visually impaired bankers through such initiatives and to provide valuable resources on the banking subject. This interactive workshop on "Empowering Strategies for Young Visually Impaired Bankers" was conducted to provide solutions to various problems posed in the banking sector and provide a platform to share the opportunities available for visually impaired persons in banking sector. In this workshop the following topics were covered. 1. Possible job profiles for visually impaired bankers 2. Challenges in different job profiles 3. Empowering tools and strategies at workplace. 4. Audio demonstration and tips on accessing bank packages with screen reading software. 5. Overcoming barriers. 6. Success stories on handling back office, HRMS, passbook printing, operating ATM, handling MIS reports, monitoring credit. Etc. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Prashant Ranjan Verma (Joint secretary at NAB Delhi), who is spearheading the IT wing of the organization. Dr. Ashwini Kumar Agarwal and Mr. Rahul Gambhir were closely associated in making it a great success. Also we got inputs from Mr. Rajat Agarwal, Manager with Canara Bank, Mr. Yogesh Taneja, and Asstt. Manager with UBI, Mr. Umang, Asstt. Mgr. with UBI, Mr. S.S. Pathak, Asstt. Manager with PNB as resource persons at the venue and Aditi Bhutan i, Gufran Ahmed, Arpit Jain, Jerin Jose through their audio recordings. Dr. Agarwal has rose to the rank of chief manager with Punjab national bank and is associated with the bank since 1987 and presently posted at zonal training center as senior faculty. Mr. Verma is an expert in the area of accessibility and has provided solutions to many challenges. Mr. Rahul Gambhir is Assistant Manager at Union Bank of India, he has innovated by making a presentation before the Union bank faculty members to include VI in training classrooms as well as prepared a reference document/manual for accessing Finacle (Core banking solution deployed across various banks". Dr. Ashwini Agarwal has given excellent inputs to blind bankers doing the session with solution centric approach. His tips are extremely important for even those who will join bank in coming times.
