In what could be India’s largest multi-level car parking (MLCP) at an airport, the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport has made a special section dedicated for cars of differently-abled people. Officials involved with the development of the project said there will be assistance for the disabled in alighting from and getting into their cars at the MLCP in addition to the availability of wheelchairs, trolleys and other facilities. “All efforts have been taken to make their journey as stress-free as possible,” said an insider. The other salient features are the gardens and water fountains created inside to relax and sooth fliers before departure and on arrival. In comparison, Terminal 3 at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi has five storeys and a capacity to accommodate 4,300 cars. Its parking facility has some of the most advanced features available in the country, such as an integrated electronic system to calculate how long a car was stationed in the allotted parking space, electronic signages to point out vacant parking slots and a space availability display system to indicate the number and location of the vacant slot.
