Dear Access-Indians,
I am sharing with you a blog post to the BarrierBreak Blog, which shares my experiences while using the Launch Pad: An innovative feature of Dolphin SuperNova. Using Dolphin SuperNova's Launch Pad to quickly access various web services I am Amit, a person with low vision working at BarrierBreak. I strongly rely upon and undoubtedly recommend Dolphin SuperNova so as to access the internet, Office applications and for that instance any other stuff which needs access to computers. Through this write-up I intend to share my experiences while using Launch Pad, a very useful feature of Dolphin SuperNova. Overview For people with any kind of visual impairment, Dolphin SuperNova continues to prove to be the ultimate solution to access any Windows powered computer to its full potential, not just only because it provides the benefits of a no compromise screen reader combined with its powerful Magnification features and flexible Braille support, but also with the additional unmatched features which it offers to its users. Here is one of them, the Launch Pad. Launch Pad is an innovative feature of SuperNova that provides shortcuts to popular web services which include internet radio, Podcasts, RSS feeds, Wiktionary Lookup, Yahoo! Weather, Google books and Google walking directions. When I press the hot key CAPSLOCK+F10, the Launch Pad window opens with list of the amazing web services mentioned. Radio stations By selecting and pressing enter on this list item, I can view a list of my favorite internet radio stations such as Classic Hits, Radio Disney, BBC etc. Suppose, if I am looking for BBC World Service, I will move through the list with up or down arrow keys to select it and then press enter to listen. If my radio station is not listed in this list I can tab to the Add button and press enter. A window opens from where I can add more stations selecting from the list of available radio stations to the favorites list. When I press enter to play a particular Radio Station, It gets streamed using the default media player on my computer Podcasts If I activate this list item, I get a list of my favorite Podcasts such as the Main Menu, NASA Cast, All things Android etc. Further when I select one of the services, suppose Main Menu, then I get a list of all recent episodes of Main Menu from which I can select and listen to. The Podcast episodes are played using default media player on my computer. I can also add or remove entries from my favorites list using the Add button I can open a list of available Podcast services and select the one to be added. To remove I can select any item from my favorite list and tab to the Remove button, then press enter. RSS Feeds With this option I can select and listen to various news updates from my favorite web-sites such as BBC News, Yahoo Music, MTV News etc. When I press enter after selecting this option, the list of my favorite RSS Feeds opens in a window. I can select any of these and press enter to open a list of headlines. I can select a particular headline of my interest and press enter to access it. The Launch Pad closes and I can read the news article which opens in the default browser on my computer. When I want to add a new entry to my favorites list lets say ESPN Moto-sport Headlines, I will simply tab to the Add button and press enter to open a dialog box which contains the available Web Feeds list and I can select the item to add and press the Add button. I can continue adding items or can press the Ok button to confirm and return to the favorites list. Wiktionary Lookup. Whenever I come across any word unaware of its meaning, With Wiktionary Lookup, I can find the meanings and definitions of that word. When I press enter on this option, a dialog box with a form field appears in which I can type in the word I want to search and tab to the Ok button and press enter. The launch Pad closes and I get the meaning and definition of the particular word I have searched opening in the default internet browser on my computer. Yahoo! Weather. I can find the weather conditions of any place I wish to with this service. All I do is enter the name of the place I wish to find the weather conditions in the search box and tab to the Search button and press enter. I have to select ONE OF THE RESULTS APPEARING WHICH MATCHES my search location and then I tab to the Ok button and press enter. I am presented with information such as the current temperature, humidity level, Sunrise and sunset timings for the day and predicted forecast for the next day for the place. This information is displayed in the same window and I also have the option to copy it. Google Books I am very fond of reading and that's the reason why I use this option to search for books online. I enter the book mane, author name or topic of interest into the search box then tab to the Search button and press enter I can then select from various books which thus get resulted I can use the More Info button so as to find more information about the book or the Download button to get a copy of the book if available for download. Google Walking Directions Before I have to visit unfamiliar addresses of those of my clients or unvisited places, I take help from this option. Pressing enter on this option opens a dialog box. In the dialog box I type my start address into the From, and destination address into the To form fields, tab to the search button and press enter. I get the intended information which includes the direction, distance and estimated time it takes to walk to the designated location. The information provided is based upon Google Maps. This information is displayed in the same window and I also have the option to copy it. Conclusion With the Dolphin SuperNova's quick and effective Launch Pad it becomes very easy to enjoy these web services with just a few key presses. Thus saving time and effort needed to search, filter and access the required stuff hidden in the enormous information available on the internet.
