Dehradun, December 3
Chief Minister Harish Rawat has announced five per cent reservation
for disabled persons in houses to be built under the Atal Awas Yojana.
He stated this while addressing a gathering after inaugurating a
multi-purpose welfare camp on International Day of Persons with
Disabilities at the community health centre at Prem Nagar today. He
called for efforts to eradicate congenital disability and make
handicapped persons self dependent.
The Chief Minister instructed officials concerned to organise
state-level fairs where disabled persons having skills in various
trades along with employer and placement agencies might participate.
He said the employers should offer jobs commensurate with the skills
of the disabled persons at these camps.
He said due to lack of knowledge and information, children become
physically weak by birth. The state government had started many
programmes for the health care of mothers and children.
The Chief Minister invited elite people of society to take care of at
least one anganwari so that the government could achieve the target of
child welfare. He felicitated skilled disabled employees, players,
self-employed persons, employers and placement agencies. He also
distributed aids to disabled persons on the occasion.
Health Minister Surender Singh Negi asked for linking disability with
employment to make such persons part of the mainstream of society. “We
