Hi,
Excellent thread, and some great suggestions.
I too was looking for a new laptop computer to purchase for my
academic requirements, as my current HP Elitebook laptop is old now,
non--functional speakers, no Bluetooth and sometimes unstable. It does
work smoothly for the rest of the part
but very very soon the problem would be that all the software would
not be available on 32 bit.

32 bit also will work but you wont get the performence that you will
get with a 64bit windows as a 32 bit will not be able to recognise and
use all of the ram
