What is really going on here? In the DSDT, all the releases have a

Please try the latest stable kernel version (2.6.17.1 is available now) and
the latest mm version (2.6.17-mm1 is available now).
It will give us more information.
It no longer happens to me as my laptop starts resuming from suspend
immediately after opening the lid w/o pressing the button. I really like
that behavior.

It occurred to an acer laptop some day ago, but it was running
kpowersave and not gnome-power-power-manager. Disabling kpowersave in
the kde control center, and running gnome-power-manager solved the
problem.
