Hi,
OK, HP recommended I upgrade the BIOS from F.21 to F.22.
They believe it fixes fan problems.
I tested with Windows first - no change - Windows still silent.
I the

Hi,
More information...
I reinstalled and booted Windows and confirm that the fan behaves sensibly
while using that OS.
I extracted the DSDT from the Windows Registry,

I was wrong.
After about 10-15 minutes on battery, the "jet engine" started again.
The pattern started as 1 minute off, 10 second on (level 2).
After a few minutes it

Hi again,
More information...
If the laptop is running on battery, the fan doesn't do the on-off cycling

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
In the BIOS the only option is "FAN ON ALWAYS" (or something like that), which
I've switched OFF.
I've attached listings of /sys/class/hwmon

As there is no ACPI fan device, it can't be controlled by OS. So this is not a
ACPI bug. Instead it is a BIOS bug.
This bug will be rejected.
Thanks.

Hi, Russellr
From the acpidump it seems that there is no ACPI FAN device. In such case
the FAN is not controlled by OS. Maybe it is controlled by BIOS. And we can do
nothing to fix it.
