Hi Rob
Sorry, no great ideas on your lsass.exe problem. An option might be to re-open your
old incident with PSS and talk to them about it.
With regard to your related question, I don't think your plan would work, because you
would end up with a different GUID for the server. It would be
I had a similar problem with the lsass.exe with SP2 and an invalid entry for
replication. There is a Q article that states that replication could be set
prior to SP2 with a valid number, however with SP2, this valid range is
smaller and the system give a similar error and reboots. Try finding
Well, the XP version of 2KAdvancedServer is .Net Server, which I don't
believe has been fully released yet. XP workstations should integrate nicely
in a 2K AD environment.
Good luck! -JB

How can I locate the registry key that corresponds to any setting I have
changed via the Group Policy MMC ?
For example, if I use the GPO MMC to set the value of Computer

Try \\DC\sysvol\domain\policies and all the subdirs. The GPO files are
listed there...

I have a question regarding AD Sites and the best approach for physical locations
connected to the network, but which do not have their own DC.
Active Directory Sites can be created for locations that do not have (and never will
have) a DC. An automatic process causes each DC to advertise

Title: Change Admin Passwords
Does anyone have experience with changing the local admin passwords for all workstations in AD? I think it can be done w/ a domain level GPO, but was wondering if anyone has ever given it a try could maybe list some of their experiences. Thanks!

This is really cool. We have had some turnover, and needed to touch a lot
of machines.

This may or may not help, but I thought I'd mention it:
There is a simple way to augment autosite coverage. You could set
regkeys to specifically assign certain DCs to cover the 'DC less' site.
The keys are type REG_MULTI_SZ and should go under
Hi,
I'm looking for information about a tool that will check the network for
existing computer names to avoid naming conflicts in the deployment of
several hundred machines. Does anyone know if there is something out
there that will query AD for a computer name, preferably in the form of
a vbs
Can anyone help me with this one?
Another one of those W2K problems that has to be something we are
overlooking.
Converted an existing user who was on a Mac to a W2k PC. No other
changes. They already had a login.bat in their profile from the
conversion.
When I log in as this

Sounds like you forgot to join the machine to the domain, or you are logging them into
a local account instead of the domain account.

hmmm, any other user can use the same machine and get the login script, etc.. The
customer is now recreating their accounts and re-associating them with their mailbox
as a work around. It doesn't make sense to us!
