Hehe - here is the kicker though. Group Policy software deployment doesn't always work UNLESS you already have SP2. We ran into this in our test lab. Tried to push out SP2 to all the workstations. They wouldn't update. Can't remember the Q article off the top of my head, but basically, if you

We upgraded our PDC to Win2k and it's running DNS. The DHCP server is still an NT 4.0 server. When I reboot my Win2k client and do a 'echo %logonserver% it tells me that the logon server is one of our NT 4.0 BDC's that was a PDC then demoted to BDC prior to the upgrade. Why would my 2k client not

I would look over the various monitoring tool vendors and see what they monitor as a baseline. I really like Quest's Spotlight series. It only cost $1000.00 per server/processor and gives you a ton of AD information. NetPro's product is also really good. One process I would add to your monitori

I used this tool to try and diagnose a AD DC where all of the c: drives permissions had been changed to allow just one normal user access to the machine,  applications like exchange which where installed on the machine failed to start and the netiq check tool didnt find a damn thing wrong!!
