Active Directory (Win 2k Server) to set users in a group (OU), that when they

Hmmm. Listen to the roar of indifference.
AD can't be shut down per se; in fact, if AD crashes for some reason, it
will shut down the machine automatically.
Run your app on your workstation or on another server, then pull the
wire.

Is there a way to stop the Active Directory service? I'm probably
missing some core concept here, but it seems to me that AD can't be
'shut down'. I would think there would be an entry in the Services
list that allows one to stop AD.
Here's my situation: I've never used AD before. I have a

As for the hardware errors, that's a differnet problem to contend with. I
see several fixes out there for the MSA 500, but I don't know exactly what
you have to know if there's something in particular to look at.
The problem with grabbing the data from the DCs is that it doesn't
actually log when a person logs off a computer. If you need to know
logoffs, then create a login/off script to record the data.
For our computer labs, I created a script to record an entry in a SQL
database when a person logs

AND as I know of, there are a lot SID changing utilities out there (e.g.
ghostwalker), but SYSPREP is the ONLY supported utility by MS!

Hi,
I’d like to setup a Windows Sharepoint Services
server as a document repository for both users in my company and also our
customers. Currently internally we have a single 1 domain 2003 forest.
My limited knowledge of AD points me towards creating a new extranet forest

I think Joe needs a bit more convincing. Let's vote: ;-)
(1) Joe should come to DEC, tell something interesting and he can "leave his
shorts on" AND he will get a beer... ;-))
(2) Joe stays at home and afterwards he hears from us how much fun it was
CHOOSE...
I say (1)
Will this convince him?
