Hi Everyone,

I am curious to know how people are rolling out security updates and install packages.
Right now my network is a 150 computer virgin network with a 2000 DC with wins, dns
and dhcp. I have about 5 other servers that are dedicated.

Clients are mostly 98, 95 and I have gotten the go ahead to start upgrading older
clients to Windows 2000 and getting rid of old machines. I could not be happier.

In trying to plan for software updates and roll outs I have a lot of concerns. I am
not sure of the best way to deploy, say service packs or virus updates to my client
machines remotely. Right now this is done manually and my network spans across the
country, all have internal addresses. There is no way currently to insure consistency
and I am sure that my company would not go for something like VERITAS WinINSTALL or
other similar products, like SMS. So I guess my question is how are people using
Windows technology and Active Directory to install updates and security patches
remotely? Should I be looking at Group Policies? Login scripts?

I know this might be a little out of the scope for our thread, but I want to do it
right the first time and plan for scalability, reliability and consistency as we are
still growing any advise would be extremely helpful.

Thanks all,

-Bryan
