Hy all,
today again a question concerning Point-In-Time-Restore :
Following situation :
I did make backups of a node for more than half a year. Many files have
prduced versions on the backup-server, a lot of files did not because they
did not change since start of backup. My policy says it
Hi There,
I gut TSM ver 4.2.1 on Win2000. There is no problem with the system or
the TSM.
my problem is like that. every time a client can't backup a file for
any reason, the NT event viewer record it as an error( with the red
color). after a wile the event viewer have hundreds of that errors,
Hi
do you experience any performance degradation when running any tape
processing such as reclamation ??
could this be related to prioritising all my admin and client schedules
have priority 5
should I give reclamation schedules a lower priority ??
thanks.

Hi,
i have 2 problems:
1.
after updating TSM Server 3.7 3.8 - 3.7. 4.0
the adsm.exe fails to start with a dr. watson error.
TSM Server is running on a Windows NT 4.0 (SP5).
2.
the performance of the Backups is very bad since we updated from ADSM 3.1
Level 2.40 to ADSM 3.7.

Lynn,
I think the problem here is the exclude list.
Excluded files are not eligible for backup, hence the expiration.
The file retention characteristics, number of versions etc, applies to actions
on the client,
so if you delete a file on the client it becomes inactive, and any expiration on

Hello, i read a white paper (december 2000) in which it is written that the 3583 LTO
tape library is not supported by the TSM tape library sharing. This is written in:
"TSM support for library sharing with 358x drives/libraries is planned to be available
in the near future."
For now, i
Andy,
Would you please update us again on the issue of mirroring vs RAID for TSM
log and database volumes. Looking back in the ADSM-L logs, I believe your
most recent recommendation (June, 1998) was to continue using TSM mirroring

It did not have a max size set on the pool, but the pool was full enough that it could
not fit 5G more into it. This apparently is treated like a file size limit and tries
to dump the large file directly to tape (at least when the storage pool is not full
enough to trip the migration

In order for this to work if you have LVD 3580 drives in your 3583 library
your SAN Data Gateway Router 2108-R03 must have the LVD scsi connections.
Likewise if you have HVD 3580 drives in your 3583 library your SAN Data
Gateway router 2108-R03 must have the HVD scsi connections. Unfortunately
I'm setting up a new server with TSM 4.1 on AIX.
The 4.1 Administrator's Guide no longer has the appendix 'Supported Devices
and Device Configuration Worksheets' that was there in version 3.
Could anyone tell me where I can find the device configuration worksheet
with the drive element numbers
Could anyone tell me where I can find the device configuration worksheet
with the drive element numbers for the Qualstar 412300 library ?
You can get there from the software web page:

which leads to:
My hierarchy consists of two disk pools, both of which migrate to a single
3590 tape pool. My questions are as follows:
1. If I backup the disk pools, then after some time they migrate and I
backup the tape pools, how are the migrated files handled? i.e. are they
backed up twice?
2. Based on
Anybody else notice this? Since the upgrade to TSM Client to version
4.1.2.12 on our NT 4.0 nodes, the elapsed time for our backups is getting
reported wrong. The particular node I've documented below starts its backup
at 8:00 pm (and yes, I've verified it's starting on time). You'll notice,
Hi Anne,
This is a known defect, and is documented in APAR IC29212. I don't have an
ETA for an available fix, though.
So sorry for the "fuzzy math".

BACKUP STGPOOL is an incremental backup; TSM checks the DB to decide whether
any file in the primary pool does or does not already exist in the copy
I am trying to do a restore on an AIX 4.3.3 server. When I open a dsm
graphical session and try to view the files that are available for restore I
can only see the directory structure.
When I query my file space in ADSM I see that I have 275 GB worth of data on

I'm having an issue with restoring an entire volume on a Windows 2000
client. The client has the 4.1.1 client code on it. Our TSM server is AIX

The problem is that the restore process keeps pausing for several minutes at
a time, and then restarting itself. It will be
You can get that result if you are not root.
I have also had similar problems if my AIX session was running low on
available colors - if you have Netscape open, try closing it to free more X
screen resources.

Getting ready to upgrade to a fairly current version of TSM (from ADSM
3.1.1.5!). Not being fond of being "bleeding edge", what would be the group's
feeling as to what the most current version is that is pretty well rock solid
and stable? Looking at the ftp site, I see 4.1.3 as being less than a
Hi everyone,
We've been using SQL-Backtrack (was Datatools, now BMC... trying to get all

Recently one database has grown so large so as to exceed the maximum file

We have AIX 4.3.2 - We are using TSM 4.1.0 and having minimal problem with
it. We did upgrade to TSM 4.1.2 and we had problem with our Archive jobs.
One archive job we did usually ran for 2 hours. When we went to 4.1.2 it
took over 15 hours... Not acceptable of course! So we went back to 4.1.0
Andy,
We are having the problem as well. Thanks for the update. This issue, in
addition to "-clusternode=yes invalid" being reported as an error on our
new Win2k cluster when it shouldn't be, is keeping me from upgrading my
clients from 3.7.2. Our NT Admins are already annoyed by the fact that
Our restores to AIX servers run great, the problem only seems to affect the
NT servers. Can anyone help...?
Jeff - You may get more insight by doing Q Sess from the server when such
a restore is running. The difference may relate to the Windows
directories having to be restored from

Has anyone noticed anything like this happening with regular backups? We

Hi there,
I have schedule a backup of a domain which contains only single node. The
problem am facing is that, if I start dsmc sched in the foreground when the
scheduled job is showing pending status (q event * * ) then it will backup
the domain, else in actlog it always says that its missed.
For Solaris clients the upgrade method is to uninstall the current version
(which leaves the relevant config files intact) then install the new
version.
I don't know for sure if the NT client is the same, but it seems likely.
The Quick Start manual or the README for the new version should
