Hi Jan,
we use CStore with ADSM ( now TSM ) since some years now.
1) I dont think the redundancy ( with a copy ) is possible. We use copy
stgpools on DLT ( one tape with big capacity ).
2) There is a 1-2-1 mapping. In our case the TSM db does not seem to grow
in an extreme way. We have archived
Hello TSM:ers
I'm trying to write a script that should cancel the sessions for certain
servers if their backup still runs at 9 am but I'm stuck. How can I do that?
It should be automated by a command script.

Joe,
Nope! I didn't know that we needed to use add/remove to install. I don't
support W2K or Citrix. The funny thing about this is we have another server
with the exact config. running TSM client 4.1.2.12 without any issues.
I will get in touch with the W2K group and make sure that we are
This could be a key selling point for using TSM (versus NetBackup) to back
up several servers that reside outside our firewall. Several quick
questions on this subject:
1. Can it be done?
Yes.
2. Does Tivoli support it?
Yes. (AFIAK)
3. Is extensive
We also went from 4.1.2.12 to 4.2.0 without problems. When we went to
4.2.1.15 we started seeing problems that a memory address was unreadable.
Haven't called support yet. Even though 4.2.0 isn't where we want to be we
backed those machines down to that level so we have something that will run
Had no problem installing client 4.2.0.0 on to that type of config. Was
also at the time running server 4.1.0.3 (NT) and using the 4.2.0.0
client without problems.
You probably already know this, but for citrix you need to install using
add/remove programs...

Hi:
I am upgrading the AIX TSM clients to 4.2.1 and there appears to be a new fileset.
Anyone care to say what this is used for?:

Well, just remember that if you want to cancel either a
session or a process, you can't have any commas in the number so you can't just
do a query cut the number out.
Here is an example of how I deal with process
numbers
#!/bin/kshfor PROCNUM in $(dsmadmc -id=someid
Also, if there are issues with opening standard known port's through the
firewall, you can get TSM to use any port number you wish.

Hi folks, I could really use some help answering this question:
With specific regards to #4, the Novell servers are set up (so I'm told I don't
administer them) in a cluster with many 'shared' volumes, and of course only one node
has a volume 'online' at a time. But during a failover situation
Niklas/Dwight,
Assuming you're using a UNIX box, here's some things to make this simpler:
o) If you put a '-comma' after your -id= -pass= then you won't
split accross two lines when you get to big sessno's.
o) Also, probably simpler to 'sed' out the ',' using a 'sed s/,//g'
Using

for backing up raw volumes (or any logical volumes...)
Say you have a file system with only 10 GB but it has a million files in
it... the overhead in backing up a million files is BAD but you could
perform an image backup of the logical volume on which the file system
Thanks Dwight,
I'll have to look it up. I'm thinking this may be a significant feature for places
that do a archives of huge unmber of files that require the whole package to be
tretrieved. In this case, the database entries would be a single entry instead of
perhaps several hundred thousand.
It is possible to remove single characters or sections from a string using
SED too; I tend to do this,
If you have a sessnum of 1,483
sessnum=$(echo ${sessnum} | sed -e 's/,//g')
will remove the ','
The sed command in that line substitutes everything after the first '/' with
Can this be used imaging in junction with backup sets?
I have a few web servers with well over 500,000 small files. During a
recovery test it took many hours to restore this volume. I am testing
out the use of backup sets for recovery purposes (so I don't need to
build the TSM server first -

Miles,
Unfortunately, the Novell TSAs are not cluster aware. Therefore, you
will windup with multiple filespaces as volumes failover to other nodes. At
this time, there is no way around this. However, there is light at the end

You got it! If a volume fails over to another node and is not moved back it will be
backed up as if it was the first time. We try to make sure that the larger volumes
stay on their home node to avoid such duplication. It's a pain in the youknowwhere!
You can see the arrangement from the Web

Does anybody in ADSMland know of a client that could backup a BSDi 4.0 box

Hi,
if you use the SQL interface and SELECT from SESSIONS then the SESSION_ID
column is the session number without a comma.

Easiest would be to
dsmadmc -id=id -password=password -comma 'select * from scripts' myfile
Then use vi to turn that into macro type lines. Or, if this is a regular
occurrence, you could automate it. Something like this might work. I
haven't tested it too hard, but at first glance, it seems

It depends on what you really want. If you want to keep the 30 versions and
expire any over 30 days except the active version then you need to add the
expire inactive versions to 30 days. If you want to keep delete file
backups for the same period then you need to set the deleted file versions
