Hi David!
Actually 3481 is your library firmware level, the most current drive levels
are 36U3 for LTO1 and 38D0 for LTO2 drives.

Hi Joe
Thats correct. Only the user data can be backed up using BRMS and the
TSM api.
To backup all system-defined objects, you will still need to use a locally
attached tape library/drive.
We've also seen perfomance issues with this solution, as the BRMS and TSM
api first backs up to disk,
Maybe this could help. Just saw this new draft redbook last week:

I'm having a client problem that has gotten me stumped. (And that
takes
some doing.)
The client node is Windows ME. The hard drive crashed, they got a new

I was planning to upgrade my z/OS server to 5.1.7 when 5.1.8 came out (I
want to go to 5.2.x but need to figure out what I need to do to get the
tapes since the ftp site only seems to include patches to 5.2.x).
I have installed this upgrade to my test server and so far so good !

I have a humble question regarding the benefits of Server-Server communication. I have
two sites 60 miles apart with 45MB pipe in between, and each of them has a TSM server
and a library. I was proposed by a TSM consultant to establish server-server DRM
configuration to enable quick recovery in

Is HSM supported on Windows?
Here is what the IBM announcement literature reports:
IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management - An optional inte-
grated software module providing Hierarchical Storage Management for
AIX and Solaris Storage Manager clients.
Hi Khalid
You and you're consultant are talking about the same procedure
To backup your primary site to the second site, you'll need to use
server-to-server virtual volumes(if you cant get a FC connection to your
library on your secondary site). You then define a devclass and a copypool
It doesn't sound like they are talking about the same thing. The consultant
sounds like he wants to backup SITE-A servers to the local TSM and then send
the copypool over to the other server via virtual volumes. Khalid wants to
backup SITE-A servers over the link directly to SITE-B TSM server.
Hi
Well, had some problems figuring out exactly what they wanted to do... :)
I dont know how large this installation is, but sending 100 clients over
a 45Mbs link suggests to me that rebuilding one site after a total
disaster will probably take more than a few days...
However, if Khalids
Recently, I moved data for several nodes from one Primary storage pool to
another. That new primary storage pool is backing up to a different copy
storage pool. Data for those servers in the original copy storage pool
(stgpool_name='OFFSITE') is no longer needed. So, I was going to perform

But nothing moved. What is wrong?
The tapes are offsite and thus the data can't be moved?
Hi all
Have any of you had a chance to work with the new free TSM Optional

(get ver. 7 here:

It just keeps getting better and better - now they are using XML as
stanza/config files, which means we
The only way I know of to get rid of the obsolete data in the original
offsite storage pool is to delete vol discarddata=yes on the
volumes involved in the offsite pool and then do a backup stg of the
original primary storagepool to recopy the data remaining in that pool.

Shouldn't it use primary storage volumes to get the data, just like a
reclamation or a move data for acc=offsite volumes?
But nothing moved. What is wrong?

The Admin Ref says for Move Data:
You can use this command to move files from an offsite volume in a copy
storage
pool. Because the offsite volume cannot be mounted, the server obtains
the files
that are on the offsite volume from either a primary storage pool or
another copy
storage pool. These
Don't think you can do a move nodedata for a copy pool. Must be done on a primary
pool.
Shouldn't it use primary storage volumes to get the data, just like a
reclamation or a move data for acc=offsite volumes?
Again, I urge reading the Technical Guide redbook to fully understand
TSM functions before trying to use them. It's particularly important
to do so because the command
Don't think you can do a move nodedata for a copy pool. Must be done on =
a primary pool.
Says the reference manual:
The data can be located in either a primary or copy storage pool.
The problem with the attempted operation was Offsitedness and TSM
documentation and programming shortcomings.

Please forgive me to ask this AIX question on TSM list :
Can any one tell me what are the file sets for ISMP s/w for AIX5L.
Or what additional Cd I need to install for this task.

Well, there it is then. We'll see if TSM support comes back with this bit
of information on their next attempt to resolve this issue. Their first
attempt was to tell me that I couldn't move nodedata from a copy storage
pool to another storage pool. I guess they didn't read the entire ESR.
I concur. I have done MOVE DATA on copypool tapes. TSM simply recopies
the original onto new copypool tapes since it knows the real copy pool
tapes are offsite !

Please respond to ADSM:
Daniel / Bill,
I do appreciate you both taking the time to share your expert opinion.
My scenario is correctly represented by Bill's response: I don't want to create copy
(COPYPOOL) of the primary tapes (TAPEPOOL).
My daily backups, for both sites, are currently occurring centrally at one

The implementation of MOVE NODEDATA (especially early versions) is a bit
wobbly. For your particular problem, see APAR IC36499.

That's not true. MOVE NODEDATA works on any storagepool, *if* the
needed volumes are onsite and readable.
Early MOVE NODEDATA versions just
