Hello all,
I can't answer this question because I have never had to use a point in time
restore function. It seems as though over the weekend a SAN controller
upgrade has led to whole file systems lost and parts of others on a node.
The person responsible wants to restore only those files that wer

Assuming you have an on-site primary tapepool and maintain an off-site
copypool, this option identifies the primary pool tapes, but not copypool
tapes. However, the copypool tapes are the ones which should be used in
DR testing.

Depending on your TSM server level, you could MOVE NODEDATA the client(s) to
a separate pool and take those tapes. If you don't want to take the primary
copy, then create a copypool and BA STGPOOL and take the copypool tapes.

First of all, Thanks Richard for your response. We have looked into your
suggestions and the SCSI cable connections are not loose, the SCSI chain
isn't too long and the here are the errors we get:

Curious, I am generating a backupset. Is the time it takes to generate a
backupset roughly the same amount
of time it would take to restore an entire client?
Thanks, I will try this and see how many tapes can be moved to overflow.

I don't think there is any good answer to that. It depends, of course, on
your data and the usage patterns at your site.
Some suggestions:

Hi Brian,
There is one other option, one that I believe I saw posted some time ago in
this list. If you're only after a few machines, and the scope of the
restore is limited, you can try the following:
At the client in question, add the line
TAPEPrompt Yes
to the dsm.opt file. Then go through

Our mainframe uses TSM client to backup the HFS files. It has come to my
attention that the OS/390 client is TSM 4.1.2 which is out of support. I've
scoured the ITSM web site and cannot find TSM Client downloads for OS/390.
Am I looking in the wrong place? Where would I find the latest client code

and a new destination directory, I get:

But if I don't use -filelist but instead use the filename to be
retrieved on the command line, it works. My Sol

I got you, Richard. This is exactly what is required from my point of view. We need to
do a diaster recovery rehearsal, which I need to get the Required tapes to another
location and restore whatever from there.
In this case, I guess only option is to bring all the offsite tapes over and put the

Hello,
How to find out the offsite media list required for specific restoration? See,
if I know the file or directory path and dates to restore, is there anyway to find out

Any thought'd be appreciated.

Hi!
But I think in VMWare can you dedicate CPUs how many CPUs to each virtuel machine.
So in that case. How do you count the CPUs then? By each virtuel CPU or buy physical
CPU * each virtuel machine?
Hmmm..
A co-worker to me told me that he have read somewhere that you only pay for the

I just got time to check the mailing list after rebuild two window servers.

Have you or the CE checked your firmware levels. There is a new version
of FW that came out a week or so ago. Make sure you check your drive sled
FW as well. If it is down rev you have to update the FW for the whole
box. It is not that painful a process from the we interface.

Thanks Richard and Eduardo,
Here's how we resolved the problem.
It turned out to be a copy of nnotes.dll in the Winnt folder.
They had some problem installing the new version of Domino and were
instructed to remove that dll, but they moved it into Winnt. Winnt was in
the path. So TDP was hit

Please respond to "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager"
I have something similar working with Adaptec 3944 (differential SCSI) and
Symbios (ultra scsi) adapters.

I'm new to this group, so I don't know if this problem has been adressed
before. Here we go:
I installed the journal service on our main windows NT server for office
applications/files (with TSM-client 5.1.0) to optimize our backup-window.
TSM holds about 1.5 mill. files from this server.

Rod,
We are currently in the same process of trying to consolidate on VMWare.
We have a TSM client running succesfully on the Linux-Base of the Vmware
box, giving us a chance to backup complete Wintel guest operating systems as
single files, having the guest OS's suspended of course. This creates
