I think that's a Windows thing; am I out of date here? (no mention of
journaling in 5.3 unix clients handbook)

Have you looked at journaling with the V5.3 client?

Joni,
Try this:
select count(*) "Full/Filling Volumes" from volumes where status in
('FULL','FILLING')

Not exactly as what you wanted, but will this work better?
select count(*) as volumes_count, status from volumes where status in
('FULL','FILLING','Empty', 'PENDING') group by status

You're welcome!.
And another thing I forgot to mention:
Use of TSM virtual volumes requires TSM Extended Edition to be entitled

Yes, the registry and SAM are included in the System Object/System State
backup.
Those files can't be backed up as "files", because Windows puts an
exclusive lock on them.
So if you try to include system32/config, you just get errors, anyway.
In fact, for Win2K and Win2K3, if you start the comman
Thanks. I my way back from getting asprin to help relieve the pain of

something a CE would need to pursue.

If you include the System Object for Windows 2000 and the
systemstate/systemservices for Windows 2003, will you backup the registry
and SAM of the server? According to the TSM Windows Client documentation
it is recommended that the system32\config directory be excluded, why?
Isn't this where the S
1) You don't need to delete the registry key (or at least I never have
had to). DSMCUTIL will do everything you need.
2) Specify option on the dsmcutil updatepw command:: /validate:no
That will cause it to change the pw in the registry without trying to
contact the server.

Yes, you can use one TSM server as an "electronic vault" for another TSM server.
Look in the Administrator's Guide under the topic "Using Virtual Volumes to
Store Data on Another Server".
It may not be the best approach, however:

We are in a DMZ so the client cannot talk to the server and the password needs

Direcories may expire, but files never end up in "limbo". Examine the
BACKUPS table: each object is fully identified by filespace and its
full path, which obviously includes its containing directory. Backing
up a directory, as an object, is usually rather meaningless in a Unix
environment as such d
