In the "best practices" document from DataDomain http://www.datadomain.com/pdf/GlassHouse-TSM-DataDomain-Whitepaper.pdf and what other things I read, it sounded like the VTL "mimicry" is not really needed in a TSM environment unless you are doing lan-free or NDMP backups. The q occ only provides the total space. The select command I was using shows actual dates. Select node_name,backup_date from backups where node_name='xx' This tells me there are backups out there from almost a year ago when their scripts are designed to delete backups older than 45 days.
